Ok I think ive read enough and gotten enough opionions to decide here. Im going to throw out a couple numbers and nutshell my combo.

-Stock gears and converter
-TH-350 (For now)
-Stock refinished crank & balanced rot. assembly
-454 .30 over, tanked, magna fluxed
-396/427 closed chamber oval ports (re-surfaced -and tanked) Coil bind ok @ .550 new guides, valaves, springs, all new.
-speed pro 90dome pistons
-probably about 9.8 compression
-air gap manifold
-pro products balancer good up to 10,000k ;)
-Edelbrock 750cfm or 800 (manual or elec. not sure)
-full length ceramic coated headers/Duramax
-MSD/Mallory/Accel HEI

Ive probably left some thing out but this will give an idea. Here are my main comp cams choices:

-280H 2000-6000RPM Range, .520/.520 Lift, Street cam w/headers 9:1 (mines a little higher, will it be alright?) Lower gears and rough idle (yum) hah.. 280 Duration (advertised)

-286H 2200-6200 .556/.556 Needs 9.5:1 Compression Lower Gears, headers, Choppy idle (may be too much lift?) 286 Duration

Then I saw a couple in Extreme Energy
-XE268H 1600-5800 RPM Range .515/.520 Stock converter, Slight rough idle, stock converter 268in/280ex Advertised duration

And last
-XE274H .552/.555 (May be too high in lift) 1800-6000 RPM Range, headers, strong mid range, 2500 stall (I have no stall converter, could I get away with it) 274/286 Advertised Duration

Well those are 4 I think would work really well, some more than others, some maybe not at all. Let me know what you guys think I have to order it today smile.gif

If you are set on a Comp Cam - I would go with the 280H. The 286 will be a dog with a stock converter and no gears. THe XE274 will need more spring and I doubt you would be happy with the XE268, although it would actually be the stronger of the 4 down low, in a 454 motor it will actually be somewhat docile. At least with the 280H, the ramps are a little more civil.

I installed a good old CC 282S solid cam in my 496. It is the solid equivalent of the CC 280 Magnum.

And it will make more power everywhere compared to the hy-cam!! But ya gotta lash it every so often, no biggie to me at all.......

Might want to take a quick gander at the Isky Mega-Hydraulic 280. Supposed to be a great cam according to some.

Sorry for having 2 similar posts guys, Id rather be using this one now. Id like to know if you guys would go 280H or XE274H, the lift might be a hair high on the 274 and likes a 2500 stall which I dont have. (I guess the 280H does also)

With those choices,I'd go with the 280H
Your pistons should have a .100 dome
