I just got my 1966 Chevelle convertible painted marina blue exterior and bright blue interior. I am going to do the interior in leather. I have a set of vinyl bright blue seat covers. I will have to get the leather dyed, and I want to know if the color of the seats should be lighter or darker or the same or different than the interior, or the same color as the vinly seat covers. The paint is satin bright blue.
Thanks,
Bob

You are probably not going to be able to get a perfect match with the leather to a factory cover...makes sure you get some good hides and get the color that you will be pleased with because A. Leather hides are high dollar and B. You are the guy that has to live with it when it is done...

An aside...are you dead set on the leather??? Have you considered a set of Legendary or PUI covers???

If you are looking to redo your interior and want to keep a factory look without dies, try these guys: SMS (503) 263-3535. I am into process of doing my interior and they had EXACTLLY what i needed when no one else did. The only down side is that they only have the material and you will need to take the seats down to someone to sew it up.

Good advise; how should the blue on the seat covers compare to the blue paint on the interior metal; ie lighter, darker, the same.
Thanks,
Bob

That is a tough question. I am not even sure what colors to match. I tried to to match the original colors and the cowl tag but it is not easy. Even the colors in mags like year one are not what you get. I would try to match the interior metal but that is just me. Do you have a pic of what it is now?

No, it just got painted this week, so I don't have any pictures yet.
Thanks,
Bob

That is almost exactly like my interior, even the seats fabric. Although the carpet i just ordered (medium blue) is a lot lighter than the carpet in that pic. I was thinking about keeping the lighter carpet but now i think i might try and exchange it. Is that interior org?

What kind of headliner and door panels Bob??? That may be something to consider...

It's a convertible and the door panels will be bright blue, also. The top is white. Everything is according to the trim tag. We have an upholstery shop in the family; so, going with the leather makes more sense. It's hard to tell from pictures shade differences, but I guess matching up with the interior color would be okay. On the other hand, I suppose a shade lighter or darker wouldn't hurt. Am I answering my own question?
Thanks,
Bob

match close as possible to door panel then I would say...

all interior a shade lighter than painted metal interior surfaces...

I am having SMS send me a sample of their bright blue leather. If the color matches up okay, and the quality of the leather is good, I'll go with it. Otherwise, I'll do the dye thing as you guys have suggested. As always, thanks for the help.

Didn't '66 Vettes have optional leater seats, and in Bright Blue too... Looks liek a similar color to Chevelles Bright Blue, but never match anything...

I wonder if theres a Vette supplier you could get material from (If SMS doesn't work out)

I hope it works out. The are goods guys but a little slow at times. From what i have seen, their stuff is good and better than most suppliers. Good luck!

Nice work. It looks good. What color is the carpet? Is it Aqua?

Looks great; I hope mine turns out as good. In the picture, the metal does look pretty close in color to the upholstery. Is that how it looks in person?
Somebody mentioned in one posting that medium blue carpet is closer to the color of the bright blue interior than bright blue carpet. Thanks for the info.

I ordered Medium Blue and it looks more like Light Blue. Is Aqua a darker color?

WOW, thats beautiful. You did a nice job with the interior. I hope mine turns out half as well. That carpet looks like "Medium Blue". If you compare it to the previos interior pic, it looks lighter. I am glad to see the lighter color in a car. I wasn't sure what it would look like. Does anyone know if the above pic is Medium Blue or Aqua?
