I haven't seen anything on this site about the white Chevelle in this year's pump gas drags. I understand he's running 8's. WOW!!!
Anybody know anything about it?

I think that's the one from Ocenaside NY with an all aluminum motor and a stick. That car has always been a beautiful car. He's been running it for years. I hate to say it but I cannot remember his name, but I know he is close friends with Tony Mamo from when he lived on Long Island. The car is very clean and has some very trick parts on it.

I think his last name is Schmidt, is it a '67? He won one of those type of races a couple of years back.

Robert Schmidt? Black vinyl top?
I remember hearing that he would have been one of only two racers in this years event, that has been a participant in every year since it's inception, had he not broke last year.

If this is the race that does a 30 mile jaunt from Comp Cams headquarters in Memphis, than we are talking about the same guy and race. I believe that he won it all in '04 or '05.

If you mean Drag Week and not Pump Gas Drags, I looked at it yesterday at CFR. The car is a 70, white with maroon stripes. He said it was a basic 540 on gobs of nitrous. By Thursday morning he had gone through two trannys and one differential.

I think he ran a 8.6x @ 159 or so, honking!

Get this, the rear suspension was very very basic. 9" ford with tube lower control arms with what appeared to be bushings (could have been solid parts) and all stock location points. The upper control arms were adjustables with hemi ends for the frame locations and again bushings on the diff. The upper mounts on the diff didn't appear to be raised at all. Small tires to boot. Basic shocks also, they were white could of been CE's painted. No sway bar.

Black camaro ripped off a 7.74 @ 180 mph, impressive.

Hi Gary, I'd be curious myself about a more accurate description of the car.

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. Could it be this one in the "Jesel" catalog a while back?

Yeah, Drag Week, sorry.
I have a buddy at work that follows the Mustang guy named Jay. He has an all aluminum FE with a blower and he's to the point where he's trying out his nitrous system. He's been keeping me up to date on what's happening thru a FE forum. Here's a link from yesterday (day 3), there's a pic of the Chevelle near the bottom. HTH

Gary, thats the one!

The green mustang made a bunch of laps, I think they must of had some problems and got it fixed late in the afternoon. We left at about 3:00 and he was making a pass then. I think the track was closing soon after.

The old cornfield track must have been preped pretty good as I overheard many guys say that they had their personal bests!
