Hi, Am new to this forum, haven't owned my project 67 Chevelle very long. It is Marina Blue, 396, 325 hp, has a 3 speed in the floor. Have all the documentation, am 2nd owner, cannot find the build sheet. Have the Protectoplate. Am wondering does anyone know how many floor 3 speed Chevelle SS's were made in 1967? Thanks. PJ:)

Welcome PJ! I love the ‘67s. In ’67 in the U.S. you could get the h.d. 3-speed literally behind every engine, from the 230 six to the 396 375-horse. The SS396 used that transmission as the standard transmission; on others it was an extra cost deal. On the Canadian Chevelles that year it was only offered behind 396s. It was plenty strong and very much like the early cast iron Borg-Warner T-10 4-speed (which actually was an outgrowth of a h.d 3-speed).
I don’t have any figures, but they were rare when new, and over the years I figure most have been swapped out for Muncie 4-speeds over the years on the cars that have survived. I’d say they are quite rare today. As to whether they are desirable, well, that is debatable. I always enjoy seeing them, and they aren’t bad to drive once you get used to the shift pattern.

Thanks again. PJ
