I finally got my cage ordered, and shipped. I haven't received it yet. I'll be towing the 'bu over to a friends fab shop to get it installed next week, or possibly the week after. I also have a set of poly body mount bushings coming. I looked around for a set of solid body mounts, but couldn't find any. Poly will work just fine. I'm sure I'll end up having to cut a couple of the castle nuts out of the body pan, but I've been there, done that.

The interior is completely removed from the car, except the dash, so that's not a problem. The cage is a ten point, and does not have a lateral bar running from forward post to forward post, under the dash. I'll be attaching the cage to the frame, per NHRA reg's.

For those of you who've been through this before, can you give me some pointers or advice on what to do, and what not to do?

Put the new bushings in first. It's pretty much out of the question to raise the body once the cage is in.

Drill a hole in the top frame channel so the cage tubing can rest on the bottom frame channel. this will give you added clearance for welding the area close to the roof/headliner, then raise the cage and weld it to the frame.

This will also help in fitting the cage, and make darn sure the car is level when you weld it to the frame.

When I did my cage, I also had done my car as a body off restoration. The car was still pretty gutted at the time. I simply removed the body bolts and jacked up one side of the body at a time to give full access to weld the top of the cage 100%. It works very well, and if your replacing the body bushings anyway, it only makes sense to jack the body up once the cage is fit and tacked in place.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I really appreciate it. I'll snap some pic's and show you what a mess I make out of it. ;) :D

What do you guys do to seal around the tubing that goes through the body sheetmetal to the frame?
