I'm getting ready to get the parts for my 496 bb
so far the very helpful MR WOLF GUY has sent me
info. on what will be a good 496 stroker kit
now i have a cam and intake that was going to go in to my 454 rebuild. a LUNATI 00026
.549/.558 LIFT 232 IN/239 EX DURATION @ .050
.293/.239 ADVERTISED DURATION@.050
the intake is a RPM PREFORMER oval port
I would like to get the most that i out of this motor if i can do better than what i got as far as cam and intake let me
know . my heads are 781 2.190/1.880
CR will be around 10.1 to 1
rear get is stock now 2.73 but will be going with a 3.73 soon, seeing that this is a big TQ motor I was told that i wouldn't want a deep gear?? oh ya 750 holley carb. 3310

Where do you want your HP peak? Do you want to soften the torque off idle, might be a good idea with a 496 eh....

I installed a good old CC 282S solid in my about 9.8 to 1 CR., 496 and per D2k it should put out right at 550 hp at 5500 rpm and 580 t at 4500 rpm so to me is a great big "tow-truck" motor!!

Please consider an Isky 280 Mega cam ground on 110 LCA if you have to have a hy-cam.

280/232, 110/?, .565".

The Lunati 00026 cam is 293/232/310/239, 110/104, .549"/.558".

OR call Harold direct at Lunati's AND get his recommendation if you can catch him, (or Steve, I think?)...

PS., running I don't remember how many cams through D2K told me that for what I want, the good old 282S is fine!! I know it is just a sim. program but still I figure it is better then me guessing...

AND one last point is that you will make more power throughout the power curve with a solid then you will with a same spec'ed hy-cam that matches the solid so that's why I went solid!!

I think you can use a little more duration especially with 496ci. For what it's worth I'm running a 250/250 @ .050 in my 468 with no problems. The more cubic inches the more streetable the aggresive cam will become.

I'm just talking about a good old, "grocery-getter" type street cam here is all...

Carry-on..
