I just got back my 69 SS 396 from the paint shop and had my rally stripes removed. What do you think. Sorry about the glare it was very sunny .
Thanks,
Fred

Much better looking! How do they "remove" them? Just sand and paint over them? For some reason I like mine with the stripes though...

Hi Brett,
My painter had to sand them down and then fill with primer and block sand. He said he used almost a gallon of primer filling and sanding. Painted the trunk and hood twice before he got it right. The paint was very difficult to match. He sprayed many test panels before coming up with the right amount of tint. Paint looks perfect in the flesh.
Thanks,
Fred

69's just look meaner and leaner without the hood stripes. Good job.!!

Black-out that grill and it will look even better, and correct for an SS.

Thanks for the nice comments, I like it better with the black stripes off, also like it without the white trim stripes on the side. I will be blackening out the grill soon.
Thanks,
Fred

I'll third the side stripes, but I think black would look better with the black interior..

Fred,
Thanks for posting this topic. Your car looks really tough without the stripes. My '71 is a similar color and I have toyed with the idea of no stripes. I am a long way from paint, but it's always in the back of my mind as I'm sure is the case with all of us! On that subject, does anyone have some shots of a '71 with no stripes? (Sorry if I'm sorta hijacking!)

I personaly like the side stripes better on a 69. The sports stripes look better white with blue, but that is just my .02

Stripe delete is just right - you made a good choice taking them off. Which blue is that?

Didn't think I'd like it, but man, that thing looks great without the stripes! You made a believer out of me.

Looks sissyfied in my opinion. Unoriginal and plain. Sorry, I like stripes.

HMMMM. Over 86000 69 Sissified SS cars without the incorrect upper body stripes. I see now why nobody likes "em.

Car looks great. As you can see I love a slight change in the correct blue color. Originality with taste. For me not every 69 color looks good with a side body stripe, but yours will. A black stripe will make everything else black on your car jump out at you.

Now that you have teased us, let us see the rest.

Hi All,
I appreciate everybodys comments. The original color for my car is Code 71 Lemans Blue. This was originally repainted. I thought it was still Lemans Blue but when my painter matched the paint he came up with a late model GM color called Bahama Blue Metalic. The car looks awesome in the flesh and the color is the first thing everybody comments on. Here are sime pics of my engine and interior. Hope you like them.
Thanks

I think it looks better. Actually, it looks great. You were fortunate to find a painter that really cares.

That blue pops out just right. I looked and did not see a Bahama Blue in the GM paint library, although sometimes colors have been called by several names that don't appear in all catologs. Any chance you could ask your painter which GM paint code he used?

That's the same color a friend of mine used on his pro street Vega wagon. Bahama Blue...Very nice....I like it without the stripes better. I've been debating about putting stripes on mine, but white instead of black.

Looks way better without the stripes. It would look even better with the side SS stripe.I just don't like 68-69's with the 70 style SS stripes. They aren't correct for that year car,and I don't understand why people put them on 68-69's in the first place. But I guess it's just a matter of personal opinion.

Sounds like a whole lotta work for little return. In my opinion stripes really make the car when it comes to Chevelles.

Hey Fred;
I like it with the strips. ............. My '68 is the same color as your '69 and I have the black strips on the trunk & hood. My strips stop on the hood and don't extend onto the header panel.

I also have Moroso tall valve covers but mine have the PCV & breather holes on the bottom, below the MOROSO name ..... what a pain, very hard time pouring in oil and the PCV sucks out the oil off the roller rockers.

Thanks for the paint info. I've been thinking about repainting my '67 ugly brown bomber into a nice blue, and that might just do it for me.

yes, defintely no stripes.

I like stripes, but not black stripes (unless on a white or yellow car)... as for what's not "correct" about them, if it's a modified car there really is no wrong or right... if the car looks stock otherwise, I'll agree they look out of place.

When I finally get around to finishing my custom heat-extractor hood, I'll lose the stripes on mine as well, but with a stock SS hood, they look fine to me. :)

Stock "SS" side stripes on a '69 look like an afterthought to me, and only really look good on a few color combos, and very stock-appearing cars. I like the un-interupted curves of the 68-69 body without any stripes on the sides.

Most of you won't like my 17" wheels, extensive brake/suspension mods, or extremely low stance either, but I built it for me, and I love to carve corners.
