: Gearheads helping gearheads....

Lately I've been busy in my professional life buying a building, remodeling same and dealing with some pretty interesting issues for my clients. I have consistently found a number of gearheads that have helped me out by greasing the skids at public agencies, short cutting the process, giving me free or cheap building materials, etc. Usually its because just about everyone that deals with me know me as the "guy" or architect that drives the old cars or I will see a picture on their desk of a rod, muscle car or bike and start a conversation up about our mutual interests.

It's kind of like an extension of the discussions and relationships here. I got thinking about this because of a post in the members section about scammers "infiltrating" boards like this to take advantage of the general good will.

Have you guys had the same experience?

Yep. I'm usually wearing a car guy hat (not just a bowtie hat), which points me out. Today it's my Mickey Thompson tires hat. Usually a car guy can't hide it, and will have something out that helps you recognize them and strike up the conversttion like you said.

I don't wear hats but T-shirts with Chevelle and Camaro on them. That and all of my son's freinds know about the car we're working on.

I usually wear my "bling" necklaces made of hood ornaments stolen from various cars during my youthful days..... I'm glad I wasn't interested in Hubcaps back then

You guys crack me up, for me its the bow tie imprint on my forehead from falling a sleep working on the engine and hitting the valve cover.
