: Timeslips from today
mr 4 speed Oct 3rd, 04, 7:20 PM Went to Lebanon Valley Nostalgia Drags today..had a great time with everyone..anyway,racing was delayed an hour due to the rain last night, and there where several spills on the track from a 57 Chevy 4 door drag car that also added quite a bit of delay,so I managed to get 2 runs in.
1st
60 1.90
330 5.453
1/8 8.38/MPH 83.99
1000 10.932
1/4 13.09/MPH 103.81
2nd
60 1.89
330 5.437
1/8 8.36/83.72
1000 10.91
1/4 13.07/103.67 MPH
All in all,I was pretty happy.I think I'll try the 750 double pumper again..I got my best 60 ft. using it,and thats what I need to run consistently in the 12.9X's
Also,my convertor is a B&M 2400,but its a 12",not 11" as advertised (Summit explained it as shortage of 11" cores)
I'm sure a tight 10" in the 3500 range would do wonders for that 60 ft.
Anyway, with 3.31's,its safe to say I probably won't be seeing those typical 13.20 to 13.50 runs anymore from those 2.56's :D
All runs where leaving the line at 1100,shift @ 5500,cross stripe at 5000
16* base/36* total by 3K
Again,had a great time socializing with Don,Jeff,Glenda,Dave,Bill,and Gene graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Bob West Oct 3rd, 04, 7:30 PM Come up on that converter a little more, make it jump off the line. You'll get those consistent/elusive 12's, I like the DP idea too. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
We had pretty good air yesterday, I ran 10.00,10.00,10.01,10.02,10.03,10.06(1000ft.track) yesterday, not necessarily in that order with 1.68-1.71 60fts on BFG's, redlight in round 3 put me on the trailer.
Hey Chris, glad to see you got out and did some testing. Nice runs, good 60's.
Are you sure they are 3.31's? :D tongue.gif

GRN69CHV Oct 3rd, 04, 7:45 PM Chris,
2 questions.
1. Did you experience much wheelspin with the rear change? It may just be possible that the gear change was just enough gain to pick up the loss of low end from the Intake swap.
2. The new drag radials you bought, were they the same size as before?
Here's an idea, before you do any more changes, we throw your motor into my car and see how it works with a 10" converter and a 3.73!
But seriously some additional runs were in order I'm sure.
jakeshoe Oct 3rd, 04, 10:07 PM Chris,
If you get ready for a converter...
I would not go as big as a 3500 converter... as low as your shift points/rpm limit is.
I got a 9.5" 3500 converter. Supposed to be efficient, etc..
I have only gained .1 in the 1/8th with fresh motor, better heads, better intake, carb, 3" exhaust, better cam, and ALOT more converter.
Went from a $99 Summit special to a $380 custom built and IMO it is too much converter for my combo.
I shift at 5800. Converter footbrakes to 3500, flashes to 4400.
According to all the "theories" this is a perfect converter for my car.
It flashes to just above the peak torque, footbrakes to just below it, small dimater, tight fin angle, should be efficient.
I've gained .09 60' time with a ~2000 rpm flash increase...
Lost 3-4 mph on the first outting and have been fighting to get that mph back, and the 60' down.
To be fair to the converter I haven't gotten the tuning all dialed in yet, but it shoudl be close now for the next outing.
Timing locked at 36*, leaned the primary jetting 6 sizes to 72 jets, and played with the pump cam and squirters.
I think that a mild broad torque curve combo like mine doesn't respond as well to the normal converter choices for a strip car.
If you are making 400 lb ft at 2800, and 450 at 4000 rpm, then it isn't going to make a huge difference whether it flashes to 3000 or 4000....
I feel like I'm leaving power unharnessed..
It will soon get a STOCK converter for back to back testing...
BillsCamino Oct 3rd, 04, 10:20 PM Sorry I didn't get to see your 2nd run today Chris. :(
I thought for sure there was a 12.xx run in your car today.
If I can come up with a converter for you, is it gonna take 4 more years for you to put it in?? ;) tongue.gif
mr 4 speed Oct 4th, 04, 5:49 AM Bill,lol :D
I think I'll try some carb tuning on the 3310 or bolt on the 750 dp
..convertor can wait..thats $$$
I'm sure I can tune a tenth into that car with the carb.I only need .08 to get to where I want to be.
Jake, thanks for the info on the convertor.Something for me to think about.
Joe,the tires are Hoosiers 9.5" x 26" DOT QT Pros..old tires where BFG drag radials,235/60/15
I didn't feel any wheelspin..car just got up and boogied.
Ran 16 lbs of air in them.
Before the gear swap,I was lucky if I ran a 13.30 best in the condtions we had yesterday,so I'm pretty pleased.
by "conditions", do mean weather conditions? i would think that this would be the perfect time of year to race, at least it is here in IN. low humidity and cool temps.
mr 4 speed Oct 4th, 04, 8:00 AM M71,
weather was great..what I'm saying is,if I still had 2.56's I would have been running 13.3X's yesterday and 60 ft. would have been 1.95-2.00 range
427L88 Oct 4th, 04, 9:15 AM Wheel spin? Naw..... lookie here....sorry Chris, I had to!
Is it sticky enough? (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/427TRI/chrislaunchlvd100204.jpg) ( hey at least I didn't stick the image in the post like I did in RR's BFG thread!) ;)
Interesting how the Performer RPM gained nothing, and didn't seem to 'multiply' the effect of the 3.31s. Guess for stock heads ( small valve) at 5500, the Performer is all you need. Might save a few guys some $$.
Only numbers I can throw around are fuel efficiency. 16.11 mpg at steady 3300 rpm cruise, and 13.76 combined with a little horsing around. Maybe in 20 years the tripower will pay for itself?
Ya, I've been driving easy on that yoke-a-joke until replaced. Some nice clutch work there yesterday, and some really horrible. I told Glenda she has to give lessons tothe boys on how to operate a 4 speed car ' UNDER PRESSURE ' !
BTW, TONS of CHevelles there. Many, many mid low 10 sec cars. And some looked 'stock' as can be. Ain't seen so many 10 second Chevelles in one place! gOTTA LOVE lvd nOSTALGIC dAY FOR THAT!
Good time was had by all. Great to see you guys again! Can't wait until next time when I hope Old Red shows his true colors.
mc71454 Oct 4th, 04, 9:32 AM Sorry I missed the day guys.. Looks like you had a great time.
GRN69CHV Oct 4th, 04, 9:33 AM Have to ask - front end - sway bar hooked or unhooked, what kind of front shocks/springs - bolted in tight or loose top nut?
I would love to have my car leave like that.
427L88 Oct 4th, 04, 9:43 AM Tom, the only downside is I saw that pro mod Vette break something in front ? and swerve violently into the near wall, JUST missing The Hitman. I'll have nitemares about that.
Actualy was online trying to find a news item about the driver and see if he's OK.
Hope to see you next time around.
The track announcer informed us that after the 3 rd round all the LVD guys were out of the running in MD. :(
Also, the car that Jim crews for was a no-go at the line. Jim, what happened? I was sitting there thinking, OK now he and I both are really pissed there wasn't ANOTHER 10 second RED chevelle running down the track! I was truly looking forward to watch the blown beauty make a nice clean mid 10s pass!
mr 4 speed Oct 4th, 04, 10:56 AM Joe,shocks are cheap Gabriels and they are bolted up tight..sway bar is hooked up too.Stock springs as well.
congrats Chris
any thought on whether the heads may just be running out of breathe for what your running at this point?
Pvt.Cowboy Oct 4th, 04, 10:59 AM Lots faster than my crate. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Bob West Oct 4th, 04, 11:02 PM So how fast did the "little red car" run? Gene?
427L88 Oct 5th, 04, 12:56 PM Didn't run it Bob. Rear yoke is tweaked. next project is to replace yoke with 1350 and new shaft. Suspect it would have run the same ol 12.2X at 11X.0 mph unless I launched harder, which I'm not too keen on 300 miles from home with a distored rear pinion yoke. Dang clutch cars! it'll be out more next year for sure.
Last year the car ran 12.7X at 116, I think, here at Lebanon Valley. 2.30 60' ( yeah, I pucker up a bit this far from home and come out easy).
I was out taking those launch pics of everyone! Kinda nice to watch your buddies do thier runs while relaxing in the stands. Once. Next year I'll get two runs in here. Only a few good stick artists, only hope I can be included in that list.
