I just received my custom aluminum fuel cell built, in replacing the crap plastic cell I used to have. I had the original mounted half in and half below the trunk. Now I want to mount it legally so if I make it to the track I wont have any issues with it. Does anyone know the NHRA specs on how to mount it this way? Any info would help me out alot.

As far as I know, the only restriction is that it can't be mounted higher than the top of the rear tires. That was a few years ago, so it may be different now.

Just like meanken said, it can't be higher than the top of the rear tires. Also if you have the sump hanging out of the trunk , you will need to make a guard for it to protect it in the event you kick something up off the track. the plastic cells need a ground, but not sure that you would w/ the alum. tank.

All I can add is that if part of it is below the trunk floor, it must have a sheild covering it. Min. thickness is .030" for alum. and .020" for steel. I dont have an up to date rule book ( 1996 is newest I do have ). I'm not certain if there is a min. dia. fastner to be used, but mine has passed NHRA tech twice and I'm using 4 - 3/8" fastners
