Looking for suggestions for my Chevelle that's being restored. BBC with manual and AC. Not sure about Doug's, Thorley (which I think are very similar), Hookers, etc. Looking for best performance for a decent price. Of course, like many things, if the gains are large for a more $$ setup, I might be convinced to go that way. ;) Thanks for your help!

1.75" dynomax coated headers fit great with an automatic, not sure about a standard transmission.

I also run dynomax on my 67 bbc. They look good and fit well.Summit carrys them and also carry their house brand. Check it out!I run it with a 4 speed!!

Wyatt. I run Hedman Elites on my 72 chevelles BB. They slid in from underneath without lifting the engine. The collectors are a ball flange so no gasket to blow and the head flange is 3/8 thick. They come coated and look great Good luck!

what engine are we talking about? pretty much stock? then i would go with the Dynomax or Hedman 1 3/4" tubes if it is.

Thanks for all the reports! Mr 4 speed, what are you running now?

m71, maybe I'm asking this question a little too early, but the engine components haven't been fully determined yet. The body is what will take the most time on this project (which my uncle is doing) so we haven't ironed everything out yet with the engine. I have orig LS-6 parts there, but I wanted it a little more streetable. It will likely have a more modern cam, rpm heads (maybe?), air gap, and somewhere between 9 and 10:1 CR. I'm new to a lot of this, so if you're looking for different/additional info, please let me know. Thanks again for all of the replies and info!

I've been happy with my hooker comps.

wyatt, with the compression you want to run i'd say 1 3/4" to 1 7/8" tube size. alot of guys are running the dynomax 1 3/4" headers with great success.

2 years later, they still look mint, but I do touch them up every now and then at the collector area.
part # is SUM-G9010

Thank you all for your help. Sounds like the Dynomax get the nod. How long have you guys been running them? Any problems with them getting loose, or leaks?

Over two years here. Tighten them down 2-3 times after heat cycling and I sure like those aluminum collector gaskets.

Any part number for the Dynomax units? Are they just the standard BBC ones from the Summit catalog? I know space is a bit tight on a big block and don't want to get the wrong ones.

not sure on the part numbers, but i know i'd much rather work on a big block chevelle than a small block one. the angle the headers bolt up at is much better on a bbc. much easier to get to the plugs and alot easier to get plug wires to fit with the headers on a bbc.

If you want some headers that will last and are warrantied on the coating, purchase them from Jet-Hot coatings,I have had ceramic coated headers and they don,t last, you can't beat the new sterling finish from jet-hot,they have many different company's headers,Hooker,Dyna max, etc.cost a little more but well worth it!

My knuckles and burnt wires can attest to that!
I ended up just going with shorty plugs and Taylor wires. They work great but it's still a pain to change em!
