I am using a set of scat rods, with 7/16 bolts. I rev my 454 to 6500 all day long. No problems yet. Knock on wood.

My current 454 uses stock 3/8 rods that have been magnafluxed and ARP rod bolts installed.I've never had a problem with 3/8 factory rods..save your money IMHO and experience.

With the prices of Aftermarket Rods now, Its not even worth buying Factory peices. I needed a set of refurbished BB rods, The shop wanted 320 $ I Bought Eagle " I " beam rods for 240 $. I went with a set of Eagle 3D H Beam rods in my BB ( 511 cid )and paid 360 $ for those
And I plan on spining it upwards of 7800

Duane And,,,those H beam rods are about 20-40 grams lighter than a stock 3/8 bolt big block rod graemlins/thumbsup.gif
At least the 6.385" Scats are so I assume the Eagles are too.

The truck 3/8" rods are the best small bolt rods due to the fact that the big end of the beam has more material around it then the car rods.

You can tell the two apart b/c the truck rod has an indent just above the big end on the bottom of the beam that just fit's your thumb!!

The car rod's indent is bigger and more triangular shaped...

Is there much difference (strength wise) between the Eagle and Scat H-Beam rods. I have heard a few people on various performance boards bad mouth these "off shore" rods, but has anyone actually seen first hand one of this rods fail?
I would think that they would be far superior than an OEM reworked 3/8" rod.

I'm thinking of starting to piece together parts for my next motor (496) and was looking at the Scat rods. They seem to be a little less expensive than the Eagles.

I have also seen the Eagles with the L-19 rod bolt. Would it be worth the extra cost over the standard ARP bolt?

For a under 6500 rpm motor, either stock rods,
or the scat/eagle i-beams are plenty strong.
Proper clearances and good rod bolts are the
most critical factor.

I havent seen a failed Eagle Rod yet, I do have 2 here that are kinda bent, with one, a valve hit the piston, it disintegrated the piston the rod is quite bent, but was in one peice and still bolted to the crank. The other, the crank broke in 2 at the journal edge, piston also exploded, again the rod is still in one peice and bolted to the crank. I had them in my SBC and it seen 8200 many times and survived... So over all.. overseas or not.. they are good Rods.

FWIW I destroyed a cast piston in a 427 at about 7000 when the exh valve went through it. Stock rod with ARP bolts punched a hole in the block but didn't break and was still attached to the crank.
