: From single plane to dual plane
70BB Sep 29th, 04, 12:28 PM I've been running a team-g intake on my 496(10:1,merlin sq.ports 2.25/1.88,lunati solid roller .660/.660 110lsa,2" headers,3" exhaust,th350/3000 stall,3:42 posi).A friend and I pulled the team-g and installed his weiand stealth. We did'nt really notice any change other than a little less grunt in the 5000 and above rpm range.Should I be changing things such as timing, carb adj.,valve setting, etc.because of this intake swap? At this point the increased low end performance, that is often spoke of, is just not there. smile.gif
75c10 Sep 29th, 04, 12:43 PM I have never had a big block before but with your combo, since your motor was built for upper RPM, my first thought would have been increasing stall instead of intake swap. I'll be watching this post!
70BB Sep 29th, 04, 1:02 PM More stall and rear gear has been mentioned by some local car guys. I may just put the team g back on and go that route. Just trying to get the best street performance out of this engine combo as it is.
mr 4 speed Sep 29th, 04, 1:18 PM Don't go by seat of the pants..a timeslip comparo would have been the best way to evaluate any changes IMHO and experience.
GRN69CHV Sep 29th, 04, 1:24 PM Just curious, what size carb used on both intakes. Also, with the Stealth - plenum divider istalled or open plenum? Agree, on one thing, other than some defined performance comaparison, how could you know if any difference occured?
70BB Sep 29th, 04, 2:25 PM Carb is a Holley 850cfm(used on both intakes).I did not install a plenum divider. As far as a "defined performance comparison",I have'nt been to the track or a dyno.Based soley on the way the car pulled(seat of the pants)before as compared to now.
GRN69CHV Sep 29th, 04, 4:48 PM You may have been able to substantiate what most of the Manufacturers' claim, that their dual plane open plenum intakes make as much power as a single plane intake. How about idle vacuum and have you checked all the plugs with both intakes to check for consistent A/F in all the cylinders?
70BB Sep 29th, 04, 9:23 PM No,I have not.......looks like I've got some homework to do.Thanks! smile.gif
Motor Martyr Sep 29th, 04, 9:51 PM 70,
WHat are the specs on the cam, .050" and advertised duration numbers.
what did you install it on (ICL) and was it degreed?
If you're looking for STREET/STRIP performance, then your original idea was the correct route, change the Manifold, but also change the Cam, and converter (ATI 10" Treemaster) and if you like i can spec out a cam that will move that Pig!
m71 Sep 29th, 04, 10:27 PM your cam, heads, and headers are all geared to match that Team G. i'm not sure that without changing at least the camshaft, that you would see any gain. i don't know how much you really drive it on the street, but i think i would have left the intake alone and put some 4.10 gears under it to get the motor breathing a little quicker. to get the most out of the parts you have, i would definately go with gears and maybe even a looser convertor. you can stick with the dual plane and change the cam to match the intake, but you still have rec port heads with 2.25 valves, which will not compliment the d/p intake and a torque cam. to get the most out a d/p and a torque cam, you need oval port heads too. so you can change everything to optimize the 3.42 gear, or you can just change the gears to 4.10's so that it matches the rest of the combo. it was worth a try though wasn't it?
70BB Sep 30th, 04, 9:07 AM Lots of good input guys, thanks. The car is not really a pig on the low end(I've had a couple of those in the past LOL.)and it really becomes a beast(with the team g)above 3500 rpm's.I think I'll first try putting the team g back on and increase the stall and gears.Stay tuned smile.gif .
