thrasher Jan 14th, 04, 2:32 AM Yoa gatta be kid'n me.There is no one out there that runs Vortec heads and a smaller cam?
onovakind67 Jan 14th, 04, 4:42 AM I don't know how they compare to Vortec heads, but I've got some old SportsmanII heads on my 406 with a 224° Comp HR cam. We run an RPM/Q-jet, 10.2:1 compression, 4.10 gears, 700R4 with a Vigilante 9.5" converter - 11.75 @ 117. The car weighs 3475# with me in it.
Georgia69 Jan 14th, 04, 8:57 AM There is a TC member who lives in Florida who runs mid-13's with a 327 and vortech heads, I wanna say his handle is MalibuJerry maybe? Anyways, do a search in the Performance forum and you can probably find some posts of his.
68softtop Jan 14th, 04, 9:22 AM I don't have any ET's as of yet, but I can share some real HP numbers. Check out my sig. for engine specs. Had this engine on the dyno a few month's ago, made 432 HP @ 5271, 490 torque @ 4075 rpm. In case your not familiar with the Hot cam specs: Duration @ .050, I:218/E:228, Lift I:525/E:525, 1.6 rockers. Assuming I'll be able to overcome expected traction problems, I'm hoping for mid to high 12's.
SuperN8 Jan 14th, 04, 2:49 PM -9.29:1 Hyperuetectic Silv-o-Lites
-Comp. Cams .454/.454 Hyd. w/ 110 lobe sep.
-Edel. Perf. RPM Vortec Intake (99% of the Vortec headed engines you will see will have this intake, although I would much rather run a Vortec Victor intake if I had the right gears/stall.)
-2.56:1 open rear (My washing machine tub spins faster)
-Stock GM TH-350 converter
I've been told a hundred times that I have a mid 14 second car with that combo. Take into concideration that the Nova wieghs exactally 3,300 with me in it.
Some 3.73 gears, Posi, and a good trans with a kit and a 2,700 11'' or 10'' stall would dip that car into WAY better numbers. In closing, the Vortec 355 pulls strong and hard for what it is, it's just hindered by stock grocery getting equipment behind it.
I do not run Vortecs. I run 1st generation twisted wedge heads. 180cc runner, 2.02/1.6 valves.
Flow Numbers sent to me by Trick Flow
I E
.100 66 52
.200 142 109
.300 187 147
.400 221 176
.500 232 194
.600 240 204
These flow numbers seem to be very close to vortecs. My best time to date is in my sig. 268 Xtreme Energy is 224/230 @ 50.
BillsCamino Jan 14th, 04, 9:40 PM Both my Vortec headed 355 motors ran low 13s.
One had a Hot Cam kit and the other was a XE274.
