: Magnaflows sound pretty nice!
Johnny O Sep 7th, 07, 3:48 PM Thought I would post a short video clip. These are Magnaflows, 3", with the 18" case. No tailpipes, just turndowns. I love the sound. I was looking for a nice sounding system after one of the Dynomax Ultraflows kinda fell apart inside and started rattling after several years of duty.
You can hear what they sound like at idle, and also while under a little throttle.
Engine is a 505 stroker, for those of you who dont know me:D:D John

quikss Sep 7th, 07, 4:27 PM I agree I have the 3" Magnaflows as well, except mine are the 22" long mufflers, but I think they have the best sound for musclecars:thumbsup: So much better than the crapmasters I did have!!
Jeff
Jerry Briggs Sep 7th, 07, 4:41 PM Love that sound.
Lionel-n-Chevelles Sep 7th, 07, 5:54 PM Outstanding! Sounds Great.

65cayne Sep 7th, 07, 6:00 PM wow john...thats the first time I've seen your car in action. Looks like it will really scoot! :beers:Those MF's reall do sound good. better than my "crapmasters"...hah!
mr 4 speed Sep 7th, 07, 6:15 PM sounds great John!
Johnny O Sep 7th, 07, 10:16 PM Thanks guys....I cant tell you how happy I am with not only the mufflers, but the car in general, it runs much better all around now. I changed heads, took the rect. ports off (I think too big for the street) and went with worked oval ports. I also did another cam change ( I could probably start a used roller cam business!) Im very happy with everything. More videos are in the works.
supersport6667 Sep 9th, 07, 9:17 AM What is your engine combo, compression, cam heads, intake, carb????? Im putting together a 509 street 10-1 motor will be a roller cam motor..............

Block is MK IV 4 bolt, .100 over,.005 deck, 4.250 Scat cast crank, Scat 4340 I-beam cap screw rods, SRP pistons, GM closed chamber heads (215's) 2.19/1.88, fairly worked over (all the usual stuff), measured at 101cc. Just about 10/1 c/r. Melling standard oil pump w/ hi pressure spring. Performer RPM Air Gap intake, ProSystems 950HP carb. Cam is Comp custom grind solid roller on billet core, cast gear. 254/266 @ .050, .660/.677, 107 LSA, installed at 101 ICL. Crane roller lifters, Crane roller rockers. 1.750 Hedman headers, 3" exhaust. TH400, 3200 stall, 3.73's. Thats about it. Oh, GM HEI ignition.
65cayne Sep 11th, 07, 3:06 PM thanks for posting your combo John. Do you drive it alot on the street with that stall? Since you changed heads and cam at the same time, I guess I cant ask how the ovals "feel" compared to the square ports you had on there....how do the specs on your new cam compare to the previous version?
Sent you a PM.
OutCast Sep 11th, 07, 3:45 PM Sounds reallly nice, John. Just love that cammed up sound...oh yeah, 2nd gear shift sounded really good too.

It's 100% street driven. Stall if fine, no problems at all with running the tranny hot. The cam specs were pretty close as far as duration and lift. I do know that there is quite a bit more bottom end now, and I really think it's mostly from the head swap. If I was racing the car, I would have made one change at a time; but for what I do with the car, it's not an issue.
John, thanks...I wanted to get on it harder, but it's a residential area, and I dont want to be 'marked':p The car shifts really hard from 1st to 2nd, and the harder you're on it, the harder it shifts. My friend was riding with me last week, and commenting on the shift.... we were at a stop sign, just taking off slowly. He started to take a drink from his water bottle. I hit it hard, then shifted to 2nd, and blew the water bottle right out of his hand. It went all over him, I really wish I had a way to video that, it was priceless!

You call that a residential area? Compared to anaheim it looks like farmland. lol Nice car

Haa....yeah, I guess. I live in a pretty rural area (compared to yours), and like all small towns, I like to stay on the good side of neighbors, cops, etc. The cops around here know me and my car, and they know I dont go doing burnouts or speeding around with it (at least not in front of them!) They never bother me at all, and that's the way I want to keep it.
GRN69CHV Sep 11th, 07, 6:39 PM Yes, sounds good. Get my 3" exhaust intalled tomorrow morning. Ended up going with the Pypes 18" case Race Pros, but I will be doing 3" tailpipes.

I like your attitude. You gotta have empathy to get along in this world.
I am lucky to live where I do as a 5 minute drive gets me onto a piece of fresh pavement that sees very little traffic to test the beast. Can only kill or irratate a cow or myself. Never a car in sight. Betcha the farmers can hear me though.

My area used to be just what you are describing, I have lived here my entire 55 years. The road where my friend lives (where I did the video) is just outside the village where I live, so it's many houses in a row. But if you go the other way, there is a long stretch of perfectly straight, nicely paved;);) road. It used to be very quiet, but now the traffic is much heavier, cops patrol it more frequently, and stores and offices are starting to spring up. I still use it to 'test n tune', but you have to be very careful now.

Make sure you post a sound or video clip.:D I was looking into those Pypes Race Pros, but Im sure they would be noisier than I have now.
GRN69CHV Sep 11th, 07, 7:35 PM Vince (69CHVL) already informed me to stop at his house on the way home. Maybe I can get him to follow me to our "test+tune" road.
Mstehle Sep 11th, 07, 8:01 PM Johhny O-Sound awesome. Deep heavy rumble but not too loud. Car got sideways easy too. Sweeeeet  Nice to live in a small town isn't it? Cities have their good points but I like living in a small town. We are about two hours west of you in the Fingerlakes.
I am putting the Pypes Race Pro on my 540. Fortunately a couple of my neighbors are car guys. I may end up having to do something a little quieter but time will tell.

Yeah, I remember when you joined up, I was telling you that I passed thru your town the week before....nice area, I like the lake being right there.
The car is really easy to get sideways now! I have to get used to that. I think I finally hit the right combo.

Chris Stanwyck Sep 12th, 07, 10:49 PM Just puy in a set of Borla XR 1 today. Way better sound than the flowmaster 40's.
I watched and listened to Johny O's car a dozen times. ...and I'm 50 years old. We need more loud videos.

GRN69CHV Sep 13th, 07, 4:54 PM JohnnyO. going to have tp search back a bit, maybe for the answers, but easier just to ask here. Is that the same tall deck motor? Can you give me the details of the install, specifically, power steering mount, alternator mount and headers. I have a 9.8 deck .070 block here and a 10.2 deck .060 block here, both ready to build. Have a set of Dart Pro 1's to go on top. Way I look at it, I can stay 9.8 deck and build a 498 or go talldeck and build up to a 535 for just about the same money (well close enough anyway) depending on how much $$$ it takes to accessorize the tall deck. Can you shed some added light on it?

No, the tall deck that you might have heard me talk about is still sitting in the garage. I dont know if I'll keep it or just sell it. Mine is a standard deck block, so there were no unusual problems with the entire build or install.
Mixtimp Sep 13th, 07, 7:45 PM Sounds great. I have FM's, and they sound awesome as well!
GRN69CHV Sep 13th, 07, 8:00 PM Thanks I am in the same position. Doesn't make much sense to build a tall deck unless A) it's all you have to work with B) you want to run a longer stroke than a 4.25" or C) you want to run a long rod motor. But, they are beefy blocks.
