I'm heading out in a couple hours for a week plus of bowhunting for elk and deer.:hurray:
My Dad and I have been spending this week together for years. The last couple of years at the end of the season he says that he doesn't know if he'll be able to do it the following year (due to an elbow injury) but each year he rehabs enough to make it happen.

BTW, he retired a couple of months ago and has just become a state certified nuisance animal trapper. So if anyone in the area has a need for his services, he can be had for a minimal charge .

Good luck with the prep work everyone! Yes George, even you. :D

I have a lot of friends that bowhunt and I just tell them to leave their bow at home and enjoy the all-day hike without packing the extra gear. ;)

Good luck!!

Hey all!

We got home this afternoon around 4:00pm. We were totally shocked at the rain! It was between 70-75 and beautiful while we were elk hunting. Then we moved to Winthrop on Friday to look for deer it was even nicer, around 80-85 Fri-Sat.

I was fortunate enough to bring home a spike bull elk and a nice 3 point mule deer buck. My dad got his mulie doe this morning to add to our year supply of meat.

While we were elk hunting I spotted a unique spike bull for my dad... it had only one spike! It looked like a cross between an elk and a unicorn. (I'm sure the other spike must have been broken off in a skirmish with another bull.)
I watched him take the shot and just before the arrow would have hit its mark it hit a small branch and deflected into the dirt.
Of course I explained to him afterwards that he should have known better than to shoot at a unicorn. He didn't find it nearly as funny as I did.

Tomorrow I'll catch up with the latest on the board but right now my wife is calling from the bedroom (what does she want...) ;)

Later!

Sweet! I'm heading to Eastern Oregon in a couple weeks for Muley. I hope I come back as successful as yourself. Congrats! I think we are going to cook up a little Elk burger tonight to get in the mood! :)

Shawn and I participated in the annual Lion's club blind fishing derby for the blind Sunday,,,he finished 5th with this baby.

To bad the one we had to the boat and up on the steering rod bushed the hook after missing it with the net. Blew this one away and would have likely won the derby..a monster.
