I had a problem with my 336 stalling coming out of a bur out. I tried several things with no luck. I have now made 2 trips to the track with the 355 and no stalling. The only change, 9:1 336 with a 284 hyd. cam to a 10.25:1 355 with a 282 solid. Same carb, intake, timing and heads. Any ideas what could have caused the stalling?

carb was too big for the 336?

or some other tuning change crept in unnoticed.

I don't think the carb was too big, 650 but how many cfm too big would cause a problem like this? The 336 was in rough shape and had shakey vacuum, would that send the same signal?

basically, what happens is if the burnout drags the engine down to an RPM below what it takes to make the main metering system function properly, it will lean out and bog. There isn't enough air velocity thorugh the venturiis to make the metering system work. Usually guys try to fix this by installing a larger accelerator pump, if you keep the same size squirter the pump shot lasts longer, hopefully long to cover the bog time.

But, I agree, a 650 isn't usually too big. Maybe it was just right on the edge and a little bigger motor is able to keep the RPM and velocity up enough to get around the bog.
