Hi Guys,

OK, I converted my drum brakes to power disk when i had the 283 in her, then it was really low, rubbing with camber issues, etc. I installed BB springs (because I had a 396 on a stand) and this raised it back up to almost stock height.

I dropped in the iron block/heads 396 this weekend and it is still sitting about stock height. Seems like the front should have sank more than it did. In fact, I went with shorty headers because I wanted to avoid any clearance problems.

Is this just typical of fresh springs?
How long before they break in and settle?
Does it sound like I have the wrong springs?

With the weight of the car on the wheels, I would loosen all the suspension hardware just a bit, that should help, then re-tighten it. Note you may need new locknuts on the uppers to do this safely, not sure. I imagine it would settle some on it's own pretty quickly when driving.

Need to also consider that you had old saggy springs as well.
My 66 small block elky seem to be a bit low. (no clearance issues--rides/drives good)
Most of the pics I have seen of new cars-----have stood pretty proud and high.

New 2" drop spindles + new springs----will potentialy bring the car back to the height you remember it-----not as it was built new---much taller

I haven't got it fired up or driven it yet since the BB install (still need a couple of things and my wife has her eye on the me and the credit cards).
I'll see how it goes with some action over the next few months.
I guess I just expected a little more drop with the BB.

After all the cash that went into the 59, I am monitored very closely:sad:

i now sneak small packages into the house---and she is usually at work when UPS shows up:D (package coming tomorrow and she is off work:eek:)

Yeah, I am looking at buying some used headers for one of my projects... And trying not to get the wife to flip out... ;)

Maybe I can gat those headers this weekend (I'll call you Dan)...
