: UDHarold Cam Reccomendation please
Todd DeLaMuca Jan 9th, 05, 8:20 PM I'm looking to change the camshaft in my 383.
9.6:1 CR, factory roller block
Performer RPM
650 DP holley
GMPP Fast Burn heads - mildly ported
1 3/4" Supercomps, 2 1/2" X pipe exhaust
TH2004R, 3.73:1 gear, 2200(ish) stall
69 Camaro convert
Looking for more oomph from a Hyd Roller for a street application. Current cam is a GMPP Hot Cam, 218/228 @ .050, .525/.525 112 LSA with 1.6 rockers. I'd like to keep it vac brake friendly, but would consider a vac can if need be.
Your recommendation would be much appreciated!
Thanks!
UDHarold Jan 10th, 05, 11:24 AM Todd,
I'm not allowed to release the specs on the VooDoo hydraulic rollers yet, but is .549"/.565" too much lift with your 1.6s?
For 219/227 at .050, I will probably be around 270/278 at the seat and 142/150 at .200, and LSAs around 112.
As soon as I get dyno tests to validate my 'guesses', and finish all the paperwork, the VooDoo hydraulic rollers can be released.
Lunati/Holley will probably offer a VooDoo hydraulic roller very similar to the numbers I just posted......

UDHarold Harold,
The lift numbers should be OK - my plan is to use the Comp beehive springs which are (supposedly) a drop-in affair on my Fastburn heads.
Being the camshaft neophyte that I am - would you please briefly explain what the main difference is- other than the lift - between the cam you mentioned and the Hot cam I'm currently running? GMPP cam card attached.
Thanks so much!

UDHarold Jan 10th, 05, 5:46 PM Todd,
Using my old 284/292HR as a stand-in for the HOTT cam, at .006" my old cam is about 276/284, 218/226 at .050, 138/146 at .200, and oddly enough, also .328/.328 lobe lift. My intake lobe has been around for about 15 to 18 years, although the exhaust isn't quite that old.
I would be willing to bet that the HOTT cam is not neearly as fat at .200" as my old cam, and the specs(if they're really real....) on the VooDoo cam are 4° fatter at .200 than my old cam, as well as more lobe and valve lift. I also do not know how unsymmetrical the HOTT cam is, although mine is 2° shorter at .006". If I have 3° or 4° later opening point on the intake, I will be filling the cylinder FASTER than the HOTT cam, and have MORE time(duration at high lift) to fill the cylinder.
This means a noticeable torque increase.
There will also be bigger VooDoo cams, with a little less vacuum.

Todd DeLaMuca Jan 11th, 05, 3:30 PM Thanks a lot, Harold. Any guess as to when these VooDoo HR's might be available?
UDHarold Jan 11th, 05, 5:40 PM I'm supposed to be finished and have all my paperwork, spreadsheets, etc, filed by tomorrow. The hold-up has been finding suitable 360 Magnum cores.......
I was also told today to stop finishing up the solid lifter VooDoo cams and finish instead the VooDoo Street Rollers....... I only have a few designed, as I do not design all of them until my concepts are approved.....
I no longer know when anything will actually get finished....

Ron454 Jan 12th, 05, 2:39 AM The real question for Harold here is......what cams does he have for the Olds Quad 4 so Todd's brother can spank his Camaro with his W41 1991 442 FWD Olds........
Semi serious....cause I do play with Quad 4's too.
