Hey all I am about to rebuild my smog 350 into a mild 350 and I was looking at the summit rebuild kit. It comes with all needed bearings, gaskets, oil pump, roller timing chain, and pistons for $309. The pistons will be hypereutectic and will give my 76cc heads a ruff 9.3 cr.

The price with the parts seems good so has anyone used this set? I will be measuring my block tonight so I can order a set starting tonight so would love some help. TIA

I actuaally built a mild 350 with a PAW rebuilt kit. They are cheaper and have more options. They are for the budget engine builder, so real performance is out of the question with them.

TIA I used a Summit kit to rebuild my 327 about 3 years ago. The pistons were Speed Pro forged (old TRW), the gaskets were Fel-Pro, and the bearings were Federal Mogul. Everything was the good stuff. Make sure that you specify file fit rings if you are picky about your ring gap. I think the kit comes with a high volume oil pump, so you might consider letting them know you just want a regular one.

I wanted the forged originally but the set is $399 compared to $309 for the hypereutectic. It will have a ud mild cam going in and will get a set of new aftermarket heads when I get the chance. Good info about the oil pump I will make sure I ask.

I got the summit rebuild kit for my 350 and like unclepennybags says, it's all good stuff. I got the hyper kit with moly rings. The only complaint I have is they don't specify the CC of the pistons so you kind of have to work with PK's compression ratio calc to find what your real compression will be dependent upon the head gasket and head cc.

The gasket they supply is like .041 thick which if you put your pistons on the stock rods/crank you may be down in the hole .025 like I was. That put my quench at .066 and I knocked alot. I used a .015 head gasket when I changed heads and it made a world of difference having the quench cherry at .040.

10:1 CR, Cast heads, HIGH static cr, I can run 89oct no problem. Before with the big quench I could only run 92 and still had some knock with the lower compression from the thicker head gasket.

Just something to think about

BTW what's wrong with a high volume oil pump?

I used this one. About half the price as the summit kit with the same brand names.

If you look lower at the options, it will be more than $154 if you put in the felpros and the hyper pistons, etc. Though you can get a cam and timing chain pretty cheap out of it...

(Yes, I set the pickup correctly, no oil return problems, standard pan.) Ended up installing a stock Melling pump with a Z-28 spring installed. Since then I've had it up to 6250 quite a few times with no oil pressure problems.

I choose the Felpro gaskets, Coyles double timing set, Hyper pistons, and Moly rings. I basically upgraded everything they offered except the cam for $242.34. Summit can't touch it!
