Just wanted to update those who were posting about my performance issues back in march.

You may recall that I seemed to have no power with my 396, so checked the cranking compression and it was 150 psi, installed a set of closed chamber heads (had open chamber on previously)and had a noticeable gain but still left me wanting some more (figured gears would do the trick). I then junked my old restrictive 2 1/4" exhaust system with stock mufflers & 2 " tails, , and installed a 2 1/2" X-pipe system from Pypes and a pair of Summit turbos. Wow, like who turned on the lights!! smile.gif I cannot get traction at all in first gear anymore, it just smokes the right tire and shoots right for redline !! I was absolutely amazed that the exhaust upgrade made that much difference. Now its time to save those pennies and upgrade to posi. I am one happy camper now.

I changed my old system to a pypes system and felt a big difference. According to dd2k I was losing about 80 hp

I went from running 97 MPH to running 103 MPH after changing the stock manifolds and 2" tailpipes to a full 2.5" system /headers..and still running the same old 2.5" inlet/outlet Flowmasters graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Alot to be gained with a BBC using a good exhaust!
I'm sure a Pypes system or a 3" would be a nice touch/more improvement over what I have currently..but I'm happy with just a full 2.5" system w/mandrel bent tailpipes.
