Go with a reputable local builder, this way he will get your input as far as vehicle weight, motor/cam specs, converter for said cam specs, rear gear ratio, and the kind of nutjob that the owner is. Chances are that the guys at your local cruise in night will know who the best guy around is.

Mail order is great for somethings, but why add shipping to the costs of your tranny, and lord help you if you break the damn thing and have to ship it back and have a warranty related battle.

Stay local, support your local business, and if you have any problems, you can roll up to his shop directly.
