Is there a way to delete a thread you started before there are replies?

If you can still see the "EDIT" option, you can edit the message and at the top there's an option to delete it and give a reason why.

I think you can delete it even if there are replies as long as you have the Edit option available. I think after a certain time frame, the Edit capability goes away but not sure.

Try it on this one or try it on a new msg in the Test area.

I don't think you can delete the first post in a thread.
You can edit it though.

I've done it in the test area, twice. Someone else asked about it a few weeks ago. Sometime between 8/10 and 8/13 I did two tests; one with no replies yet and one that I replied to. Check the Test Area forum and you'll see the threads I started but deleted. Maybe if somebody else replies, it can't be edited/deleted, haven't tried that one yet.

We can try it. I'll post another test, we'll get a small thread going, then I'll see if I can delete it. Check the Test Area.

The initial post information is still listed but selecting it simply turns up a blank area saying the posting was deleted. There may be a time frame as I noted between initial posting and ability to edit it but if you're quick enough and realize you don't want the posting at all, you can delete it. Maybe there's a time option in the software that after a span of time a message can no longer be editied.

But not "delete" as in disappear completely.

Guess I couldn't see one that had been deleted :D

Yeah, I don't think the whole thing goes away probably due to it being a database entry. Maybe Al has an option to purge the database but it may be more trouble than it's worth - or maybe there's no way to purge and reindex the database. In any event, it makes one cautious what to put in the topic section, doesn't it? :D

I wonder how long the starting message of a thread has to be open before it cannot be edited/deleted or how old any reply to a thread has to be before it can't be edited/deleted?

I'm thinking it's set a 15 minutes but not sure.

I accidentally reposted the same question I had written 3 days ago. I then went back (2mins later) and tried to find a delete button but only found edit.

Oh well...

Dont read this then...
