: head choice
Chaser77 Jun 21st, 04, 9:35 PM here is my combo
350 .030
comp cam 280H .480 lift
9:5:1 comp with 64cc head speed pro forged piston
rpm air gap intake
1.6 roller rockers
1 3/4 headers
750 holly carb
and a 3000 stall with 3.73 gears..
which heads would be better for my car? the twisted edge 23º heads 195CC intake 2.02/1.60 64CC or the dart pro 1 heads 200CC intake?
Nickel333 Jun 21st, 04, 10:58 PM Twisted wedge is kind of an old design if im not mistaken. And i believe you have to use special pistons. So if you want aluminum heads look at the standard trickflow 195's or somthing comparable. Afr 195's and Brodix RR200's are both better flowing heads out of the box but they are more money also {And according to a reputable source everyone BUT AFR and Brodix inflate there flow numbers}. Canfield supposedly makes a good 195 cc head. GM performance has the 210 fastburn but ive heard nothing about those, world products makes a Motown 205,There are others. Its your call, but do your research.
Schurkey Jun 21st, 04, 11:08 PM The Trick Flow Twisted Wedge and the Trick Flow 23 Degree heads are NOT the same.
Far as I can tell, the Twisted Wedge heads (either the Gen I or Gen II) produced more power than the 23 degree units, but were slightly more expensive, and at least the Gen I had issues with intake valve guides due to improper valve train geometry that Comp Cams developed a special roller rocker to fix. The Twisted Wedge heads for SBC are long out of production, but there are a few new in the box sets to be found if you search hard enough.
The 23 Degree heads are more conventional, and not a bad deal, but nothing special in terms of aluminum aftermarket heads. Main selling point was price.
It's the Twisted Wedge heads that need flattops or special domes. A fine street head, has steam holes for 400 blocks standard. I bought a pair of Gen I heads years ago. I found out the hard way regarding the valvetrain geometry issue.
I'd strongly consider the GM Fastburn heads or Edelbrock's E-Techs if I were to do it again.
Aaron Kelley Jun 22nd, 04, 8:08 PM GM Fast burns worked pretty good on my combo. I did have them ported though. The neat thing about the fast burns is they have a very efficent combution chamber. We did a little dyno session and it ended up making sometihing like 490 HP and 460 ft/lbs with dual plane intake, cam with .565 lift and 350 SBC after the porting that wasn't out of the box power. We didn't break any records but I was pretty impressed.
Chaser77 Jun 22nd, 04, 8:42 PM what do you guyz think about the race rite head brodix makes. is that a good head and will it go nicley with my combo?
Nickel333 Jun 22nd, 04, 8:56 PM i run them on my 11:1 350. No track times yet but i will say this...get the CNC chamber option if you buy them and talk directly with Brodix. The CNC chamber alone was worth 30 hp and 20 lb/ft of torque on a fairly mild 350 Mike Lewis Dyno'd
Chaser77 Jun 22nd, 04, 9:42 PM what are the flow numbers also nickel what cam/stall do you run?

Here ya go, check this post:
Flow Numbers (http://www.chevelles.com/cgi-bin/forum/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=018849#000003)
This is off my bench not advertised numbers although you can believe the numbers from both AFR & Brodix, they do not inflate them.
If you email me I can probably save you a few dollars on the heads ;)
Nickel333 Jun 23rd, 04, 12:14 AM Chaser77, I run a richmond 5 speed and 4.11 gears in a Nova. So theres no stall, its a fairly light car and with the way the tranny's set up it like running a standard 4 speed with a 5.19 gear. Then shift into 5th for an economy friendly 4.11 graemlins/clonk.gif
BUT this is why i can run my
Howard 302/310, 268/278@.050, .560/.572 solid on the street anywhere i want on 89 octane with a calculated 11.1 compression. Im going to track test it, but then have plans to change to somthing in the high 250's-260's @ .050 area becuase i feel im over cammed. Oh and im going to retract one of my last statements, talk to brodix directly about the options you have as far as CNC, valves and whats best for you, but surely dont buy direct from them or summit, go with the somone you know or heck Wolf for that matter because they get MUCH better prices. Believe me. My local guy got mine angle milled, CNC chambered, titanium retainers, tax and shipped for what Brodix wanted box stock.
GM PARTS1 Jun 23rd, 04, 12:06 PM For your combo I'd do Vortech's!! Big time money saver. :D Or if your budget can stand it AFR195's to grow into later. AFR is the best choice though. graemlins/beers.gif
Chaser77 Jun 26th, 04, 12:01 AM what do you guys think about the edelbrock victor jr heads?
