I have a gm small block 350 w/ the following:
9.5:1 compression
Intake: edelbrock performer eps
Cam: 442 lift #edl-2103
Carb: edelbrock 600cfm electric choke
Heads: world products sr (not sr torker)
Headers: hooker (ceramic coated)
Rear: 342 gear
Converter: 2000 stall(b&m)

I put this set-up in my car which weighs aprox.
3700 lbs. and when i put it on the dyno i got 223hp w/ 296 torque at the rear wheel. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED. I was hoping for around 350 to 375 hp. I am not going to race the car just a decent street car w/ some good hp when i need it. I was planning on getting the edelbrock performer heads #60899 for starters?? What set up would you guys reccomend?? I hear you guys on this site know your shtuff.
PLEASE HELP

To get 350-375 HP at the rear wheels with a 350,you'll need more than cylinder heads.
In fact, you all ready have decent heads, but your cam is out of line for what you expect.
Did you try tuning the car on the dyno?
Just an FYI,my 454 makes approx. 350-360 HP at the rear wheels going by its weight,ET and MPH

I would look at a set of the Edelbrock ETec's if you're stuck on Edelbrock. Personally if I had the money I'd get a set of 195 AFR's, talk to Mike (Wolfplace) about them. Ask UDHarold for a cam recommendation and get a Performer RPM or RPM Air gap intake. How big are those hooker headers, you dont want them too big or you wont have enough backpressure. With a good cam from Harold and those AFR's you should have no problem getting 325 - 350 at the crank. I'd also look at a Holley 650 Vacuum secondary carb if you dont have a good carb already.

The headers have 1 3/4" tubes. I realize i have to change the cam to get more hp and may also have to change some other components on the engine to get where i want to be (350 - 375). I am willing to do that just want all of the parts to work w/ one another. This was my first engine
and really didn't ask around before i put it together.

for 375 rwhp your going to have to make around 450 engine HP. Remember that GM could only make 370 engine HP with a big solid cam and 12-1 compression. Everybody has a "400HP" small block..on paper..or off of a magazine..but its a lot tuffer to do in real life. 223HP and almost 300ftlbs of torque isn't too bad at the rear wheels. Theres a lot of guys that would take that and be happy as a clam at high tide.

look for posts that list 'ryans car page' it has a lot real world combos/dynos

I agree with Elco Joe about the headers. You are probably sacrificing some below 5000 RPM torque with the large (for a small block) tube headers. And remember, more torque = more HP.

Are you sure they are not 1 5/8"?

Hooker does make a 1 3/4" header for small blocks. I had a set of them on a '73 El Camino years ago.

Yeah 1 3/4" is huge for a 350. Just to give you an idea I'm going to be using 1 3/4" Dynomax header for my large oval 454. Double check that header size to make sure its not too big. Swap in a hotter cam and even with the heads you have it will wake up quite a bit. Probably get you alot more off the line if you have the bigger headers.
