I need a good performance shifter to fit in my '71. I have a Starshifter now that I haven't put in yet but it won't fit on the trans. tunnel the way I want it.
What I want is an automatic 3 speed racing shifter that bolts in with the existing contours of the trans. tunnel. Also since my car was a factory console floor shifted car there is a hole already in the floor with the rubber boot for the cable.
Also there is one good area that has about 5 inches worth of flat metal. I was hoping there's something there to work. My only other option is to fabricate and weld a piece of flat metal for the starshifter.....not something I want to do.
I was thinking about maybe a Hurst quarter stick or a B&M pro stick....they look pretty compact so I'm thinking maybe one of them would be small enough to fit on the 5 inch pad on my trans. tunnel?
Does anyone use either or?
As I stated in your interior post about shifters if you use the SEARCH (http://www.chevelles.com/cgi-bin/forum/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=search;search_forum=4) button you will find no less than 49 topics on shifter. Good Luck smile.gif

In my 70 I am using a B&M Quick Silver. It seemed to mount up ok and I really like the way it performs.
As far as the "do a search" pat answer, I really, really hate that! Just because someone asked a question in another area, does that mean that he is not allowed to ask it here? Some of the answer's I read are really demeaning! Sometimes you do a search and still do not find the solution to your problem. Seems to me like when someone has nothing constructive to offer to your problem, they always say "Do a Search". Why take the time to post an answer like this! Just pass it by rather than be sarcastic!
Sorry to rant. I just get tired of reading that reply to other folks questions. I'll probably get flamed for my comments, but it is what it is. It just hit me wrong. Sorry.............

I like my B&M Street Bandit. Not alot of folks using them, price may be an issue. Very compact / clean install. Rock solid performance, looks great.

Maybe I didn't find the answer I was looking for.
My car is an original bucket seat car that used to have a console. The console is now gone as well as the factory shifter.
I want to install the new shifter between the seats and reuse the factory hole in the floor for the shifter cable. The starshifter I have now won;t bolt down the way I want it to unless I fab up some brackets or something.
I thought about going with either a pro stick or a quarter stick.....but I need to know the dimensions of it as well as if it has a back up light switch or not. I already read it has a neutral safety switch. Also does it work like a ratchet shifter?

I'll 2nd the Turbo Action Cheetah, Very nice shifter!
I didnt have to cut the floor at all, just put bolts through the floor on the 4 mounting tabs, and drilled a small hole for the cable.
rear exit Morse style cable, with a very smooth action.

I like the B&M Megashifter. I installed it in my 71 when I had a bench seat and didn't have to move it when I switched to buckets. I just don't race or really shift hard, so I don't know how it stands up to hard use or racing, but I like the look though. It's been good to me for 5 years now.
