I currently have a all metal 72 with a 454, RPM intake, 830 DP, 10-1 forged, crane solid (240@.050) cam, roller rockers. I am getting ready to install a 3200 stall and add some Drag Radials. Question is would it be worth the performance and money to replace my 3.42's with 4.11's It's a weekend warrior that will go to our local 1/8th mile track every now and then. I shift at 6000RPM, Thanks David

On a 1/8th mile track use the 4:11's. Will tell you though, with a 454 motor, that car will be a handful to run at highway speeds. Around town cruising at 35 to 50 mph: tolerable. 65 - 70 : screaming.

I've got 4.10 gears, a four speed, 28" tires, and my 396 is spinning about 3400 rpm @ 70 mph.

That can get kinda old, fast.
I mean its fun to hear, but minivans will pass you. graemlins/sad.gif

I'd leave it alone for now and go to the track..see what it does..I know people that have run low 11's with 468's and 3.55's...and where totally streetable. If you do decide to change the gears,at least you will be able to see what the gear change got you..do you have an ET goal in mind?

Dave,

If you are looking for absloute fastest ET than the 4.11's will be better to get you there. BUT I also would suggest a quality converter that will flash around 4500 as well or don't bother with the 4.11's. This also assumes you will hook the car.

The 3.42's will be a little slower ET wise just due to 60 ft times, but will also help you to consistantly hook the car. So if you are looking to bracket race and win stick with the 3.42's.

A good compromise would be a 4000 converter with the 3.42's. It will also be easier on the driveline since your car is so heavy.

I ran 7.2x's with 3.55's and a 468 with a 4k converter at 3950 lbs. And I love my 3.42's on the highway.
