RENOWNED CAM DESIGNER,
HAROLD BROOKSHIRE JOINS LUNATI graemlins/hurray.gif
Memphis, TN – Harold Brookshire has joined Lunati as their Chief Cam Designer. Harold will report directly to Mike Peters, the Vice President and General Manager for Lunati.
As Lunati’s Chief Cam Designer, Harold will be responsible for developing and designing new valve train products, new cam profiles, camshaft lobe designs, and working with engine builders to expand Lunati’s product offerings. Harold Brookshire is one of a few cam designers in the United States with the ability to design new and revolutionary camshaft and valve train products. He has proven himself to be one of the industry’s most knowledgeable valve train experts. Throughout his career he has developed numerous winning and legendary designs as well as proven himself to be an innovative problem solver.
Harold is a self-taught cam designer, with a long list of credentials that date back to 1972 when he sold his first cam design. In 1974 General Kinetics hired Harold to expand their cam program. While employed with General Kinetics, Harold designed the custom cams that gave Shirl Greer the win for the 1974 funny car championship, and Benny Parsons his 1975 Daytona 500 win.
In 1976 Harold left General Kinetics and went to work for Comp Cams in 1977 as their Cam Designer. While at Comp Cams Harold wrote their first in house computer cam design program where he developed and coined the High Energy series of cams for Comp. One of Harold’s new custom cam designs while at Comp gave Buddy Baker his 1980 Daytona victory. Official records of NASCAR show the 1980 Daytona 500 to be the fastest Daytona ever run.
Late in 1980 Harold left Comp Cams and started his own cam business, Ultradyne. Harold said, “I loved owning my own business, but it left me no time to do what I really love, which is designing cams. In the last two weeks at Lunati I have been able to design more new cams then I have in the last six months of owning my own business. Here at Lunati I’ve gotten back to what I love and they’ve given me the freedom to let me expand their camshaft offerings, and the equipment to work on new experimental designs.”
Lunati internal engine parts are used throughout the world in racing, street, marine, and powersport engines. Lunati is a part of the Holley family of companies which include Weiand, Hooker, FlowTech, Earl’s, and NOS. 69ralleygreen Nov 18th, 03, 12:53 AM HAROLD IS AWESOME! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Georgia69 Nov 18th, 03, 11:09 AM Awesome...Harold certainly has compiled a body of work that demands respect. Want to hear something funny though? Racer1320, aka Ed Bigley, emailed me last night to tell me I was a fool for getting camshaft opinions from Harold, and that he (Ed) is much more knowledgeable. Or at least that's how I interpreted his message after I deleted all the profanity. I guess a 10-sec bracket car is a greater acheivement than winning the Daytona 500. Too bad Dale Earnhardt Sr. isn't still around to comment on that smile.gif
Ed, if you're reading this (and I know you are) I have set up filters on my Outlook to send your emails straight where they belong...the trash bin...so don't bother.
Again, hats off to Harold and thanks for all the time and advice he has shared here at TC.
427L88 Nov 18th, 03, 2:14 PM Not only a "genuis", but Mr. Brookshire is a true gentleman, and I wish him the greatest success at Holley! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
And Sir, when you get around to it, I need a "street" solid roller for a 509 GenVI block. Something like 248/255 on a 112lsa with a modest .650" at the valve. Anything like that in the works?
gspan1830 Nov 18th, 03, 5:18 PM Ya can't keep a good man down.
Good for you Harold

BillsCamino Nov 19th, 03, 4:13 PM One of Harold's "new" Lunati cams is headed for the dyno next Friday. :D
He has made some predictions and we'll soon see how close they come.
