: I can't find any Valve Covers!!!!
Dejablue69SS Oct 13th, 03, 8:15 AM I am having a big problem guys. I just built my 468 a couple months ago. I had some big problems finding any valve covers that fit because I have Harland Sharp Roller Rockers. Everything I found kept hitting the rockers and if I got too tall of covers they don't fit under the brake booster. The ones I am using now are old Holley covers that don't look the best and they don't have a baffle which causes the car to smoke. Its really frustrating. Any suggestions??? Thanks guys.

EddieC67ss Oct 13th, 03, 9:19 AM Try a stock set of covers with a thicker gasket. I had the same problem with my 67 when I went to a solid roller. My problem was clearance for the roller rockers. I don't know about the power brake clearance. I used the stock covers with a set of Mr. Gasket #5863.
I had the same problem. I wanted stock height valve covers with baffles. I had to double the gasket (one standard and on thick Mr. Gasket glued together). I also had to grind the corner of a few of the Harland Sharp rockers. It is a common problem.

me too. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Dejablue69SS Oct 13th, 03, 10:15 AM Doesn't that cause a problem though by grinding the Rockers??? That just doesn't sound good. And I am surprised the valve covers don't leak by putting double gaskets on there. It would seem like they would to me. So frustrating.
kjett Oct 13th, 03, 10:16 AM B&B makes a nice tall big block valve cover. I run them on my car. I must warn you, however, if you're running power brakes the tall covers will hit the stock booster. I had to go to a 7" booster (dual diaphram).
RAMBO Oct 13th, 03, 12:01 PM Or get a baffle from holley for their covers(they still sell the baffles, i know i just bought 2 of em), and polish up the covers.
I have a set of the M/T's polished like a mirror- they look pretty decent... BB ones look even better polished!

No problem filing the corner of a couple of the rockers. I know plenty of guys who have done it. Regarding the gaskets, I used the good Mr. gasket corks. One thick and one standard glued together, no leaks. Don't be frustrated smile.gif
Big James 4XL Oct 13th, 03, 3:40 PM I had to trim the baffles and cut the drippers off for them to fit on mine, as well as grind the corners of 1 HS rocker on each side. Not a big deal though. I used a thick gasket and have had no problems.
I used a dab of modeling clay on each rocker and turned the engine through. That will show you exactly where you need clearence.
70ss496 Oct 13th, 03, 4:10 PM I use tall valve covers with power brakes, and yes they did hit the booster. I know a guy who builds race cars around here. He took and cut a 45 degree angle off that back corner of the valve covers and welded in a new piece and smoothed it all out. All that I had to do is polish back out the aluminum. It looks great and unless you're really looking you can't even tell its there, theres about an 1/8" clearance between the booster and cover. They were they wysco aluminum tall smooth covers. If you can or know someone who can have them do this, its a lot cheaper than buying a new booster, cost me $30.

Bob West Oct 13th, 03, 8:59 PM I've got a set of ERSON tall stamped steel valve covers on mine, with Crane roller rockers, less than a 1/2 inch clearance on the power brake booster, but I can get them off and on pretty easy.
Thad Oct 13th, 03, 10:23 PM Okay, so maybe I'm a savage.
Could you maybe put a well placed dent in the driverside cover enough to clear the booster ?
Like the old big block Corvettes had.
