I went to FedEx and had to "short ship" a rear end from Cali to Ark, it cost a few hundred if I remember correct. Basically it has to be put on a pallet, secured firmly and then covered. They told me plastic wrap was fine, and that it had to be completely empty of all liquids.

Just an update.. Someone turned me on to uship.com which is an eBay owned company.. You basically place a request and several shippers bid on your shipment. They have feedback and all like eBay.. Seems pretty secure... I already have bids from 800 down to 389....

So if you every need something shipped, this may be the way to go.. Anyone have experience with them?

Something tells me that UPS or Fedex is not the way to ship an engine. What you need is an over-the road carrier. Don't know anything about R & L carriers or Fowlers but they sound like a couple of places worth looking into. An issue that you need to be sensitive to is that with the weight of a skidded engine, you need to insure that there is a fork lift or a dock on both the shipping end and the receiving end. The last thing that you want is a semi to show up to load or unload your engine and no way to get it on/off the trailer.

I have not used them in a year, so I am not sure if it still works the same as before. Set up an account, it is free, then a rep will contact you (or you contact the rep via email or phone) and they will get a quote for you. I shipped an engine and they were the cheapest. They use multiple carriers and you get a wholesale price since they are always shipping stuff. My engine arrived fast and in perfect shape. It is also cheaper to ship to a business address and even cheaper if you pick up and/or drop off at a terminal.

It is likely that you don't need this anymore, but I have found ShipAnEngine.com and they are cheap, fast and great to work with.

They have the cheapest "No Bull" shipping rates on engines and transmissions. Every quote I've gotten, whether it has been business to business or to residential, has been the lowest every time.

And they give you a quote with everything included whether you need a liftgate or not.

They have told me that they can squeaze 95% of their quotes within $225 - $325.

I'm shipping 2-5 engines a month and they are saving me a lot of money.

Just strap the engine to a pallet and they'll pick it up.
Check them out. It's free to get a quote.
