: Are chrome bumpers high maintenance?
slvrchvllss Aug 26th, 07, 9:11 PM Just curious....had my bumpers re-chromed on my 70 Chevelle SS and 2 months later, I need to polish light tarnishing off. I have a bottle of chrome polish and they look great now, just thought, WOW!! I guess I need to keep up on these bumpers. Just wondering if any of you have had similar experiences. Thanks. Tom.
dboz Aug 26th, 07, 9:29 PM The guy who rechromes my stuff says to NEVER use chrome cleaner/polish. It is what leads to pitting and rust. Actually eats off the chrome...so he says. I guess he should know. Check out Gibbs Brand.
FlameOut Aug 26th, 07, 9:33 PM What's a good way to clean the chrome then, other then a chrome polish? I never knew you shouldn't use a cleaner/polish on the chrome
LateNight72 Aug 26th, 07, 9:43 PM I don't believe what that chromer says, I mean, his business is to chrome parts, right? I personally use Mothers chrome polish on my chrome rims on my Daily, then I use a cheap wax, such as Turtle Wax brand. Makes life a lot easier to clean up the rims, and theoretically should protect them alot better then straight chrome.

i agree just clean your chrome and use wax and it should keep it clean.. for a quick cleaning i use a spray wax..
ChicagoChevelle68 Aug 27th, 07, 8:32 AM When I first crack the can of canuraba wax when it gets warm outside....it smells like summer.
Sigh.
I use it on the bumpers after a good chrome cleaner.
509Merlin Aug 27th, 07, 4:27 PM I dont think I buy that either, chrome is harder than a whores heart if chrome polish destroys it then its crap to start with. I used Turtle brand chrome polish for years on a motorcycle with a lot of chrome and it never hurt it.

BillK Aug 27th, 07, 7:23 PM Sounds like a cheapo plate job to me :( I have an NOS front bumper that has been sitting in my hot / cold / humid garage for two years and still looks like the day I bought it.
ak 67SD Aug 27th, 07, 10:43 PM i've had mine replated and on the car for 20 years now... i used to use plain turtle wax at shows, but in the past 10 years, its just water and wipe ...they shine great!
