120 laps and no cautions, Bristol is just another race now. They cannot leave things alone. Bristol was one of those great tracks where excitement was at every turn and they took the uniquness away. (the caution came out for the first time while I was typing this)

It looks pretty racy to me. I like the side by side racing in the corners. Daren

You want racing or wrecking? 500 laps at Bristol is a little over kill. Frankly, I'd prefer they went back to asphalt and bias ply tires but I guess that won't happen.

This is some pretty good racing. But good racing and follow the leader look a lot alike.

Johnny, I thought that very same thought after I hit submit. But its still BRISTOL BAABBY!!!! Still my alltime favorite track to watch on TV, haven't seen it live yet. Daren

I was at the Busch night race back in '98. All I can say is, bring earplugs, and then wear earmuffs over them. I've been around racing since I was an embryo and I've never heard anything so loud.

A friend of mine called me tonight all excited about 3 wide racing at Bristol. I don't keep up with much Nascar but this is the one race I will watch. Well, I use to. I agree, just a shorter track like everywhere else now. Call it old school, but I like to watch Bristol just for the impatience factor and after race comments. Oh well, one less reason to sit in front of the TV.

I thought the racing was great at times but when Kahne and Edwards got hooked up it was dull . The main thing that is missing now is the constant fighting for the one groove and all those WWE comments after the race about how the driver was a victim of a on purpose bump and threatening retalliation.

They need: softer tires that will wear out, 10 gallon fuel cells, do away with the chase. Biggest problem in the last half of the season is the best running 15-20 cars are just looking to finish and get points toward making the chase. These are the guys that have a chance to win if they push, but now they don't want to take a chance of getting no points, so they play follow the leader. Remember last August on the old track they had a boring race, too.

Exactly the reason NASCAR changed the chase for this year. It is no longer going to be the guy first in points starts first in the chase, Now it goes by number of wins first. So the guy with the most wins this season prior to the start of the chase will be first in points for the chase. Granted they are still more interested in a good finish, but the win carries much more value now.
Plus the winner gets extra points for the win as well now this season.

Personally, I thought the caution flags every 10 laps on the old track were BORING, and it takes little or no skill to knock someone out of the way. New track is much better.

most of the fun of watching a race at Bristol has been watching how what happens there carries over to the other races for the rest of the year. good friends got turned into bitter enemies at that track.
plus, the garage area looked like the pit area of a local demo derby after the race. there's just something gratifying about seeing millions of dollars of equipment getting all bashed up like that and being held together by racer's tape and prayers.

Seemed pretty boring to me........couldn't get that "Bristol" feeling. I always thought I'd like to go to a race there, but with 165,000 other people? I'll stick to the TV.

Liked it better when driver's used to "Rattled Cages". Ain't been the same since there is no #3 on the track. Everyone is just driving around trying not to touch eachother when they try to pass, if they might touch they let off the gas now. I liked the days when a driver could try to pass and win a race if he had a faster car and push a track hog out of the way.

you mean like the time Dale Sr tried to spin Terry Labonte out of the way coming out of turn 4 on the last lap, and Terry took the checkered flag backwards (and maybe upside down??). after the race, he just laughed it off and said "that's Bristol for ya", and Dale just kind of smirked and said "i just wanted to rattle his cage a bit, i didn't mean to spin him"...
ahh, the good old days. i think that was bout '96 or so.
