: Valve covers?
70cartruck Feb 27th, 05, 4:18 PM i was looking at some new valve covers for my sb 350 (1970 block). I noticed on most aftermarket covers they dont have an oil fill hole or pcv holes. Do you not need them? How do you fill up your car with oil without the hole?
thanx
70cartruck Feb 28th, 05, 11:50 AM anybody have any ideas?
thanx
ssal396 Feb 28th, 05, 11:53 AM Valve covers not only need a hole for oil fill, but you need to run a pcv valve as well.. I would get a different brand cover..

caru68 Feb 28th, 05, 12:04 PM Some of the nicer covers will require you to drill your own holes, which kinda sucks for the amount of $$ they cost.
Never Satisfied Feb 28th, 05, 12:22 PM Yep, I just drilled my new covers on Saturday. Get a good holesaw and drill away.....not hard at all.
383Vette Feb 28th, 05, 12:24 PM what about baffles..the covers that involve drilling your own holes, don't you need them, otherwise you'd get oil coming out everywhere?
Never Satisfied Feb 28th, 05, 12:26 PM I got a pair of baffled grommets from Milodon, although others including Moroso sells them too.
PS The Milodon part number is: 85673
70cartruck Feb 28th, 05, 12:39 PM do valve covers come with a new oil cap?
Using the stock cap would look like crap on new valve covers? What do you use to notch the sides of the holes in order for the cap to twist in?
thanx
Thad Feb 28th, 05, 12:47 PM I'd bet that most of us with aftermarket valve covers run a breather cap, that pulls out, and fill our oil through there.
Never Satisfied Feb 28th, 05, 12:54 PM Just buy the push-in style oil caps....Summit offers several styles. If you go that route, you won't need a special hole.
