Just a FWIW, Hugger orange is the Chevelle/Camaro name, Monaco orange is the Corvette name - same color. Congrats on finding the code and confirming your 69 is a factory SS. :)

I've seen it both ways in Chevelle literature as well as simply 'Orange' in the GM restoration kit for 69 Chevelles. GM of Canada paint chip chart here on TC simply calls it Red-Orange. Regardless of what name one calls it, it looks good on 69 and 70 Chevelles

BTW, this is from PPGs website, an OEM supplier. I know the asterisk in front of _72_ shows a Camaro color but many others do as well that were not a special color on Chevelles, like Fathom Green, Cortez Silver, etc.

awesome!....can't wait to get the car sometime this week http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/9/4/89898494.htm thats a link to the add...its got a healthy running 396,T-10,4:11 12 bolt posi...the color is an ugly dark metallic blue the first thing to go will be the exhaust...then wheels...dunno what route i'll go there...maybe Weld rodlites or Torq Thrust D's...maybe even 5 spoke SS wheels..first actual thing i'm doing is searching for the build sheet and checkin the Vin on the motor...

Why does Chevrolet change the name of the same color based on model? It doesnt make much marketing sense to me.

Making sense or not it was/is all marketing. The same orange color on a '69 GTO Judge was called Carousel Red.

The color name was part of the marketing.
Hugger Orange for the Camaro since the Camaro used the Hugger name in some of the ads.

Some of the colors were named after famous race tracks to give a sporty image
examples are LeMans Blue, Daytona Yellow, Monaco Orange

The original sales lit used Monaco Orange as a Chevelle special order color
