There's this kid at school that's putting together his 67 Mustang fastback, that says if he takes his B&M 144 Powercharger off his car that he could still beat me without it... Well, he can talk the talk, but won't walk the walk. I know that if I put my new gears, and mini-spool in that he wouldn't be able to take me. So I am at a deciding point... I can put my turbo on my 71 right now, and go spank him till its not funny any more, or I can continue building my turbo 283 in the 67, and spank him with that, but it wouldn't be this season due to having to buy forged pistons, rods, and other misc stuff.
What to do? What to do?

This is all going to happen on the track mind you. Street racing is bad.

Well I would just throw on some NAWS and kick his tail into tomorrow. Yea, put some NAWS on their and some turbo action or one of them blowers and you too will be a rock star.

how fast is this Rustang? has he already beat you before? you said he was building it? if he's just building it then it's all hype right now isn't it?
i don't like the sound of "mini-spool". those were made for dirt track cars. they don't usually hold up very well in a street or drag car.
i graduated high school in 1988 and there were guys "building" cars back then that were going stomp all over my 71 Chevelle, i haven't seen most of them yet. guess they're still building them. ;)

This motor was in his 63 fairlane, and it did beat me with the blower, with my open rear etc. The mustang is pretty much built already I believe his just painting it or doing some misc crap. It will be done by the time the season starts. My dad seems to think that I can beat him without my turbo, even if he doesn't take off his blower. I just need to put my gears, and posi-type affair in.

Do you have available funds for a 454?

There is no need for a 454.

Interesting high school hot rod games: maybe this, maybe that - perhaps a race in a year. Good grief man, why don't you just build your car whatever way you want and if he happens to still want to race you after you get done then go to it.

Sounds like this guy knows how to lay down a sucker punch of bench racing - hit a guy with a not rady to race car. The next sucker punch is to get you thinking about all the things you could do, meanwhile he is making improvements too.

m71 has it right.

Why not a 454? Who said you couldn't bring a bigger bat to the fight?

How much longer will your car take to build? I want you to kick his butt. It seems like almost every drag racer has a rivial. I've incountered one also. He has the same tactics as yours. When I was re-building this summer he would come over to my house with his times from the previous week still on his window. The same guy will put his "breakout" number on his window before he leaves the track  . Then he like to critique my cam, compression, carb, etcetra.

Does this guy with the mustang have any track times?

He doesn't have any times with his Mustang, but the same engine was in his 63 Fairlane. He never got a good run with it, the blower belt would always come off, or he'd have some kind of fuel problem. Those runs were usually in the low to mid 13s. Now that he's got all the bugs out the talk has just recently started. My car is already built, I just need to change the gears, and throw my posi-type affair in there. I may put a bigger cam in it we will see. I have the turbo, and I am dying to use it on something, I can have my car ready for the first race of the season. Building a 454 however, it wouldn't be ready for the season, or even this year. I don't have the fundage for one either. My 350 has all the up-town crap, super rotating assy. etc. I could slam the turbo on right now if I wanted, but that would leave the 67... well... less than adequate. As for all the questions of my 67 being for sale. If you show up with the money, its yours, but I'm not going all out to advertise it.

Do you have any pics of your 67? I am interested. I have a 10 month old daughter that I named Mariah Chevelle. Never too early to start building her a chevelle. Thanks.

He never got a good run with it. http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/RacnJsn95/671.jpg There is a pic of the 67. The front fender is straight now, but not bolted on.

I think I am just going to get a bigger cam, put my gears/posi in, and I will be able to take him. I will save the turbo for the 283.
