There was an article in a Car and Driver issue several months back (not sure which one) that explained why GM can't directly import the Holden Ute to the US. Beside emissions compliance, I think it was something to do with foreign divisions can't export into a county that provide a similar domestic product. So, let's see, a Holden Ute is going to steal market share from a Chevy Colorado or Silverado???? I know GM has been talking with Holden, but I don't know what, if anything, will come of it.
Besides it's collectability, I have an older El Camino because there is nothing like it available new (SSR was not a practical option)

I started a thread several months ago on these after a trip to Australia. The UTE concept is very popular there, and the "Big Boy" version, the Maloo R8 is virtually the same car as the new GTO that was released in the U.S. a couple of years ago. Check out the videos that are in the old thread:

270kW of power? (I thought it was the stereo. Damn metric system) And the steering wheel is on the wrong side! ;) Actually, ever since the Holden built GTO there has been hope of this car coming over also. We saw how well the GTO did, I wouldn't hold my breath. But it never hurts to hope...

Ron,
Yes it is! Chevy people seem to hang together. Tracy and I have a 1965 El Camino. We haven't seen you around Borchard lately.

I like the Ute but I think the price of it will have the same results as the GTO in the U.S.A. Very few will be sold and they will be discontinued.

I would love to see them bring them over. But I just don't see them selling enough to make it worthwhile. I don't see the average buyer giving up there SUV's and Pickups for one.

I heard it will be released as a GMC Caballero.

i actually saw one of these a few years ago sitting outside the former Saginaw steering gear plant(now Delphi) it had chevy bowtie logos on it. i thought it was a prototype until i found out it was a holden from Australia. but it did have all Chevy emblems on it so they have been tossing the idea around. somewhere i have pics of it. i went home got my digital camera & walked up to fence & snapped a couple of pics. i grew up a couple miles away from this plant & remember seeing cars go by i had never seen before. then a few years later they would be available to public. WHO new i was getting a sneak peak at future cars!!!
