I was tuning the L79 tonight and noticed a very slight fuel leak where the fuel line attaches to the front bowl. What I found was that the threads in the bowl have been stripped. I'm surprised it hasn't leaked until now. The fitting is fine, but the bowl is definitely stripped.

Is there any way to repair the threads in the bowl? Probably not, and if that's the case, where can I locate a correct bowl for this carb? I absolutely must have not only a functionally correct bowl, I also need one that LOOKS entirely correct for this carb.

Here's a photo of the carb just after it arrived back from Holley Restoration Services. They were the last to touch it, so guess who I suspect stripped the threads....

Rich ...... I don't have the number BUT....

Holley has a teck line where the factory also sells parts that are no longer in production ... I've used this route many times over the years to replace things that everyone told me I couldn't get :)

I sent an e-mail off to the carb resto services guys at Holley who restored the carb some years ago. I can't expect them to take credit for stripping the threads, but I do hope they can help me find a replacement bowl.

If you can find the specific phone number you've used in the past, please post it here or send it my way if you can.

Rich,

Isn't there supposed to be a fiber or copper washer between the brass fuel inlet fitting and the carb bowl? I say that because there are banjo fittings available for the single feed Holleys.

This one doesn't use a banjo fitting but yes there is a sealing washer between the fitting and the carb bowl. The washer was in place but that's not the problem unfortunately.

John, I may be in touch. Thanks!

Not to ask an obvious question, but the bowl is stripped so bad that tephlon Tape won't even seal the threads?

I definitely need one. Holley says they can repair the bowl but I'm not sure if that will affect the look of things or require me to use a different fitting. The fitting that screws in there has a flare which accepts the hard fuel line from the pump. It's all unique to '65 L79s so I need to maintain the correct appearances.

If you and/or John can provide photos of the bowls you have I can determine if they are what I need. You can send me a PM or e-mail via my profile info.

Yep, I tried that trick last night and no go. I couldn't even snug down the fitting finger tight. I've no idea how it's stayed sealed up until now.
