: stock looking engine-but not?
chevbob Aug 22nd, 07, 3:13 PM Anybody use a performer or rpm intake and paint it orange to have the stock look? Does the original snorkel air cleaner still fit under the hood ok? Since I have a square bore Holley to use, I was going to use a performer eps intake but would lose the oil fill tube up front. It would probably look more stock to use a rpm but I want to keep all the low end torque I can. Wish they would come out with the oil fill boss on the eps! If anyone has done this and have an engine pick please post. Thanks!
69396ss Aug 22nd, 07, 3:17 PM Not the exact same application, but on my 69 325 HP, I used a 375HP Aluminum intake and painted it orange to resemble the Cast Iron intake.
Pretty much the same principle.
onovakind67 Aug 22nd, 07, 3:20 PM I got me a Brzezinski manifold. Stock as hell.
Rabbit Aug 22nd, 07, 4:01 PM I have a '67 Malibu with a 283. I put in a vanilla Performer (non RPM), painted orange, with the oil filler tube (I didn't want to give up, or worse, punch holes in, those pretty "Chevrolet" script valve covers.) I think it looks great. It looks a lot like a stock manifold except for the "Edelbrock" name, which you could grind off if you really want to. I'm not using the original airbox, but I think the one I'm using is at least as tall and it fits just fine. The carb is a Holley 570 street avenger (squarebore, basically a 1450). I don't have a pic handy, but I'll see if I can snap one for you today.
I hope this is helpful.

chevbob Aug 23rd, 07, 3:00 AM So you are using a squarebore adapter on your performer? Yes, I would like to see a pic. (And thanks to you other guys for your replies!)
Rabbit Aug 23rd, 07, 8:43 PM No, I'm just using a four-hole spacer. An adapter isn't needed, because the manifold is a side-by-side divided plenum design that works with both kinds of carb:

If it had four holes in the Q-Jet pattern, it would need the adapter. http://www.mondellotwister.com/Man8455.gif. Bolt hole spacing is also an issue with those (notice the multiple bolt holes in the Edelbrock, to fit both).
The main thing is to make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks at the carb base. Almost any spacer & gasket combo will accomplish that, and you might get away with just a thick gasket.
Still no pic of mine, sorry, I'm working on it...

chevbob Aug 24th, 07, 2:42 AM Thanks for the info Reid, never mind about the photo. I'm sure it looks pretty stock. Bob
11sChevelle Aug 24th, 07, 11:52 AM I put a performer rpm on my 402. I ground off the edelbrock and performer letters and then whent over it with a sandblaster. Using a stock thermostat housing, and no fancy arp intake bolts it looks very stock. I could probably get a couple pictures after work for you.
136679ss Aug 24th, 07, 1:49 PM What I don't understand about this, (and believe me I'm guilty of painting the aluminum intake orange myself) I don't believe you're fooling anybody you'd potentially race by the sound coming out of your exhaust.
