: Gas tank vent fitting '69 Chevelle
jrtbolt Aug 21st, 07, 3:43 PM Are there any options for the plastic gas tank vent fitting, which I can't find? Can the vent hoses be attached to the tank and run up and mounted to the floor above the rear end? Has anyone done this? I have a '69 Chevelle
Smittie Aug 21st, 07, 3:59 PM Well, I made my own out of fuel hose, a plastic y fitting (2 into 1), a glass fuel filter with the guts removed, and a chunk of lawn mower air filter stuffed inside the glass fuel filter housing. It tucked under the metal strap and works great. No more fuel splashing out and it vents well when driving and filling the tank. I may have a picture somewhere, I can check later today.

vrooom3440 Aug 21st, 07, 8:39 PM Note that the two vent lines coming out the front right corner of the tank actually end at far opposed corners of the tank. So it is quite possible for one of them to be submerged and get fuel pushed up. But normally the other will be in air to vent as expected.
That expensive little plastic part combines the two into a single vent line and allows any fuel that escapes from one line to drain back down the other. Man for that kind of price I would make my own even if it was Mickey Mouse.

136679ss Aug 22nd, 07, 3:19 AM These guys are 10 bucks cheaper. I believe they all fail to incorporate the foam that belongs inside the vent as well. Also, they should only be on 68-70 models with the emissions addition in 71.

For the foam insert all you have to do is go to Lowes and get a lawn mower air cleaner foam replacement insert for about $5 and trim it down to just a little larger than the vent housing. Compress the foam and stuff it in the largest opening.
