I have a '66 SS396 with a 3855961 block. The pad is blank, so I don't know if it's original. I have not pulled a valve cover to check the head casting number (I'm in Iraq and car is in storage in Virginia), but am trying to figure out what the casting should be - based on the block casting and date production (my car is 12C - I understand most L78s were built after February '66), I'm guessing L34 or L35 (assuming this is the original block; will have to check the date code to see if it could be the original block), so would like to know what casting #s were used for '66 396s. I tried Mor-Tech, but they list several numbers (3846206, 3872702, 3873702, 3904390, 3917215, 3931063, 3964280, or 3964290) and I'm guessing Chevy didn't use all of these heads on '66 396s. Tried to find this info with a search, but no luck. Car did come with two original '66 BBC intakes; both cast iron for oval port heads - - one Holley and one for a Q-Jet, but both are dated too late, so this doesn't add anything to the puzzle.

Also, engine also has an incorrect (HEI) distributor, so wondering what are my options for the distributor. At one point, I had found a website with all these #s and I saved them, but I lost all that data when I had computer issues recently

Car also has some old-school Centerlines (they match the 80's vibe gold anodized Moroso valve covers :)), and the original wheels are long gone. Any ideas on where I can find info on what my options were on original wheels? Cruised the tech pages on the site; lots of great info, but no luck on original wheels.

While I'm at it, if anyone can steer me towards any carburetor info (understand I could have Holley or Rochester), I'd appreciate it. Didn't see this on the tech pages, but haven't done a search yet.

FYI - have not searched for a build sheet yet; original gas tank has been replaced, but interior is all original, so maybe it's in there somewhere... Obviously that would answer many of my questions.

BTW - car is Aztec bronze with bronze interior, Baltimore build. Complete, runs and drives, but needs resto. Purchased in Virginia after a decade plus spent in a barn near Unionville.

Thanks in advance for any info,

Scott
