: Computer whiz needed (help):
BillyGman Aug 21st, 07, 12:05 PM I posted this in another forum, but I haven't received more than one reply, so I thought that I'd try this over here. Can anyone help me out with this www.putfile.com (http://www.putfile.com/) viewing thing? Every time I click on a vid over there, the window pops up, but I only get the audio of the file, and not the video. And this is my home PC I'm talking about. I tried downloading Adobe flash player, but that still didn't change anything. I also downloaded Windows Media Player 11 but it didn't change anything. I have Windows XP Pro if that matters. It seems to be only vids from over there won't play.
stealth71 Aug 21st, 07, 4:05 PM What web browser?
Johnny O Aug 21st, 07, 5:10 PM I'll be watching this one...ever since I got my new computer last December, the same thing is happening to me. Only certain videos wont play, but they played fine on my old computer. This new one geared for audio/video, so I figured it would cover everything.....Not so!!
Dean Aug 21st, 07, 5:15 PM Did you try a different browser?
Many times those modified browsers (like AOL) will make things difficult. You might try using Internet Explorer from Microsoft or Firefox, a free download. Good luck. :)
d1_bradley Aug 21st, 07, 5:26 PM Using Firefox/2.0.0.6 on XP. I already had Windows Media Player 11 on my machine but didn't have the "plugin" installed in Firefox. I used the site you linked to bring up a video, it had a Green X to click to install the 'plugin'. Download, then close all Firefox windows. Double click the downloaded file and follow the instructions to install. After it finishes, open the site again, then run a video. It worked on mine. Sound and Video, tried a few across the top... all worked fine. Just BE SURE TO CLOSE ALL BROWSER windows when installing.

I was using AT&T/Yahoo browser, and it didn't work for the putfile vids, so the lastnight i tried Firefox, and that didn't work either. I guess I'll try reloading that green X thing plug-in again. :(
Troy70SS Aug 21st, 07, 6:46 PM Billy - You need to be an admin equivalent on your box for Flash to load properly. Especially if SP2 is on XP. It's likely those other plug-ins behave similarly. If you can log on as administrator or verify you are a member of that group on the machine you will have better luck with these plug-ins.
Good luck,
Troy

I'm not that familiar with putfile, but it sounds like you might not have the correct codec. You might try downloading the Divx player. It installs quite a few codecs so you can play pretty much anything.
<edit> Never mind. After looking at the code, it looks like the files are all Flash video. ...at least the two I looked at are.
Johnny O Aug 21st, 07, 7:53 PM Billy, I dont know if this will help you or not, but after having the same problems, this time I downloaded the plug-in, but this time closed all the open windows. Installed it, and BANG.....it works fine now. I did this at least 5 times before, but always had open programs. This time, it's fine.
BillyGman Aug 21st, 07, 8:03 PM okay guys, you definately gave me some things to try. The first thing will be to close all the running programs before installing the plug-ins. This is a home PC I'm speaking of, and I do have admin privilages since I always log in as the admin.

I had a computer guy come out and change mine back to version 9 because i lost the sound when trying to play discs on the DVD rom drive.
