I'm converting from an auto to a Muncie in my 64, do I need to add a shifter hump on the transmission tunnel or can I just cut a hole in the tunnel and mount the shifter boot?? I'm using a Hurst Comp Shifter, Bench Seat and No console. Thanks.

My factory 4 speed 64 El Camino has a hump installed just to cover the pivot area of the shifter. I have seen aftermarket humps for 64 that are flat across the top and don't look at all like the factory piece. I dontt know if this is the difference between the console and non-console application. I'd put a hump in, either way just so you're not trying to stuff the bulk of a shifter inside the boot.

I strongly recommend the shifter hump. I did the conversion for my '65 a few years ago - bench seat, no console. The shifter hump helps to keep heat, noise and water out of the passenger compartment. If you want to use the stock type rubber boot and retainer ring, the retainer ring mounts on the hump, not the floor. It probably will not fit without the hump.

There is a specific hump for the non-console application. Don't use the flat top piece made for console applications.

I installed a new Hurst Comp/Plus with the standard shifter handle. It fits well and does not hit the seat even with the seat all the way up.

cool, now i just need to find the correct hump. I think most places only sell the hump that is flat across, i'll have to do some searching to find the right one.

anyone know who sells the correct hump? thanks.
