About how much torque would be too much (traction-wise) on a chevelle with the basic traction upgrades and regular 29" radials on the street? This includes SSM bars, adjustible uppers, 3.73:1 gears, 2004R, and posi.

I am running well over 500Ft/lbs on the street, no such thing as too much in my mind. Build for torque, the HP will be there. Torque rules on the street.

Define "too much torque".... that's a tough question. "Too little torque" is much easier, as you have goals for what the torque should do for you if you have enough. IE, spin street tires at will, or a specific 1/4 time, or say you just wanna pull wheelies. If you don't meet your goals, then you have too little torque.

Those same goals are achievable with "too much torque". If you have extra left over, does that mean it's too much? I could have a 750 lb*ft chevelle with a goal of 12.99 1/4 et, and if I only need 425 lb*ft to do that, I just won't have to press the go-pedal as far.... smile.gif

Just messin with you a little, hehe. But seriously, can you have too much of a good thing? I don't think I'll ever have ENOUGH torque :D

I just remember having my XE268h-10 cam in my 350+.060". If I floored it from idle (with no suspension mods) I'd spin my tires to 2nd gear. Yeah, it was cool at first (to show off), but picking pieces of my tires off the car got old. I know the 406 will have a lot more torque than that too... but I will have suspension upgrades. I do want to spin my tires when I want, but I don't want them spinning forever.

If the uncontrolled wheel spin is your problem, you have a couple options. Don't just floor it immediately of idle. Roll into it. If the tires start to spin, back-pedal a little, and let em hook up. Or improve the car to handle the torque you have.... update the suspension, and get stickier/bigger tires to hold it.

Soooo much depends on the car. My chevelle is 13.80, and my buddies 96 Z28 is 14.10 in the 1/4. So I assume, similar power output, maybe I have a little edge. My car will hook up quickly, I can't really ever start to spin the tires once the car is already moving. (on 255 BFG's!) My buddies camaro however, will roast the tires continuously till you let off, and he can spin the tires from a 20 mph roll, easily. We have roughly the same power, but the cars react very differnetly.
