I just noticed on my 67, that there are plates welded onto the cross frame where the motor mounts are bolted to. The motor mounts are actually about 3 inches in front of the cross frame, mounted to the welded on plates

Is this normally what needs to be done when swapping out the original 6 cyl for a SB V8? I'll try to take some pictures, because I probably didn't explain this to well what I'm talking about :)

This is the way they shall look, they shall be bolted to the frame not welded.

Sorry, I knew I wasn't explaining it very well. The mounts are bolted to the extension plate that was welded to the frame. It looks like if the motor had been mounted without these plates added, it would be sitting further back toward the firewall by a few inches.

I took some pictures, I just need to get them uploaded

Here is a picture of the welded on plate http://inlinethumb01.webshots.com/9472/2686099290032804792S500x500Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2686099290032804792DCzNFN)

Does this look right, or didn't this need done in order to install the SB in place of the straight 6?

Looks like the one who changed the 6 to 8 was in a hurry and grabbed what he have. Instead of the welded plates you should have the brackets I showed in my post+other mounts on the engine. Like this(hope you can see on my pic.) Your one will work if properly welded.
