Hello all,
I have a 72 SS with an older crate 350 and turbo 350. I am planning on putting in a Jasper 454 next year. Someone gave me a rebuilt heavy duty turbo 400 out of an old suburban. My question is: If I were to put this turbo 400 tranny on my current small block, will it's mounting location change with the big block? I will have to cut a driveshaft down to put this tranny in and I dont really want to do it twise. Also, what rear end gear ratio would you recommend with a high torque 454 and turbo 400? I will race it occasionally, but I want to be able to make the hot rod long haul without blowing up my motor. Thanks everyone!

It should fall in the same place on either application without altering the driveshaft.

This tranny looks much longer than the turbo 350 in there now, it has a longer tailshaft....

Sorry, I didn't read that you got it out of a Suburban. This 400 is a long tail-shaft tranny and will require a shorter driveshaft.

No problem my friend, I'll just get an aluminum one cut to size!

That's what I'd do also. You'll also have a better driveshaft than the original by doing this.:)
