: Finally got in the 11's
Troy70SS Aug 20th, 07, 5:53 PM Went to Bradenton Saturday evening to see if I could finally get the elusive 11.x timeslip. It was raining to the south and to the north so it was a little humid but that served to cool it off a little into the low 80's.
I just switched from 3.73's to 4.10's to keep the car in the power band on the big end. I also ran for the first time with the 3.5" exhaust turned out before the rear wheels.
First pass was a 11.903 @112.68 1.67 60' :beers:
The 4.10's definitely helped the 60's.
Second Pass was a 11.857 @114.47 and hit the rev limiter in 2nd.
I raised the rev limiter to 6500 and set my light to come on at 6000.
Ran a 11.813 @ 114.31. All 60's were 1.67 so the launch is consistent.
With some good fall air I'm thinking I may get her near that 11.50 number.
I'm happy as a pig in $h1t :hurray:
My buddy busted an axle on his 70 Torino so I think maybe my next expenditure is to get rid of these factory axles and C clips. Mine wouldn't stay in the car like his did.

TooLgasm Aug 20th, 07, 10:46 PM Congrats Troy! Do you drive the Chevelle to Bradenton?
Motorhead62 Aug 20th, 07, 11:12 PM Sweet! :beers:
Good Job!
Bob West Aug 20th, 07, 11:42 PM Congrats on the 11's, and come on down!!!! ;)
Troy70SS Aug 21st, 07, 7:08 AM Thanks guys. Yes - I'm already thinking about how to go faster. It's a damn disease that could get me divorced. My wife says if I'm in the shop she could flash me and I would ignore it to keep my hands on my BBC!
Brian - I used to drive it but it's too much of a PITA to change to slicks at the track and have someone follow me in the truck with tools, generator, etc. I woosed out and bought a trailer. Much easier and I can get her home if I break something. Knock on wood.
kjett Aug 21st, 07, 8:22 AM Congrats on the new bests! Land-o-Lakes, huh? That's near my old stomping grounds. I grew up in Z-hills :)

Troy. While that is probably is a good idea but your Chevy has 30 spline axles and are way stronger than the Ford's stock 28 splined ones. The next step up for your buddy would be an aftermarket 31 spline which will handle lots most situations.
Troy70SS Aug 21st, 07, 12:50 PM Hi Ken - How long have you been gone? I work just south of Zephyrhills at CFI.
Zephyrhills sucks during the Winter because of all the old folks that clog the streets and the restaurants. 54 is so ridiculous trying to get out of town. It's lined up from 75 almost all the way back to Morris Bridge in the morning.
Hi Harold - Those were 31 spline Ford axles he twisted off. They are in a 9" rear with nodular iron center section and 4.30 gears. It's a 4-speed car and he was side stepping the clutch at 4500. He also just put in a McLeod dual disc clutch which may not be allowing enough slip either. We'll get it sorted out eventually.
He's going to get some Moser Axles now. He's also going to back off on the Cal-Tracs a little more. he had them sop tight the car was just jumping and then breaking lose. The intial shock was violent. He just put them on there so he hasn't got them figured out yet.
Troy.

Troy, I moved away from Z-hills in 1984. Graduated from ZHS in 1983. I used to live on the road across from Hills Grocery at the intersection of Hwy 54 and Morris Bridge Rd. It used to be a dirt road called Hancart Rd. Now it's a 4 lane hwy that runs between Z-Hills and Dade City I think. When I left there it was nothing but orange trees and dirt road. The house I grew up is still there. I agree on the traffic situation. Z-Hills has always been a migration place for the snow birds. Traffic was terrible even way back when I lived there :)
Nolowrider Aug 21st, 07, 1:56 PM Congrats. Although I don't have a Chevelle (yet) I will be replacing my 3.73's on Friday with a new set of 4.10's. I hope I am as happy as you. I am doing it for the same reason as you, to get the RPM's up into my power range. :hurray:
Troy70SS Aug 21st, 07, 6:19 PM Ken - there is now a Home Depot at that corner. I moved to Z-Hills in 1985 and actually coached wrestling at ZHS in 86 and 87. I moved out of Z-hills in 1986. Moved to LOL in 1987. If you are ever back in this area, let me know beforehand, I would like to buy you a beer while you are in town. :beers:
Nolo... I hope you as much success I had with the change. Some told me it would hurt me because I had so much torque to begin with. I just didn't see it the same way.
Troy.
71malibu406 Aug 21st, 07, 6:43 PM congrats on the times. with the list of parts you have in your sig i'd say you have just begun to touch the potential of your combo. did the exhaust change make any difference or was it just the gears?
Troy70SS Aug 21st, 07, 6:50 PM I have to believe that the exhaust helped because I ran more MPH than I ever had and in hotter weather than my previous best. The gears definitely helped with the 60ft/ET's but I don't think they gave me any MPH.
Nolowrider Aug 21st, 07, 7:13 PM I don't run my truck down the track so I am not worried about the top end speed. I just like to smoke em from red light to red light. I just enjoy cruising, rarely get over 45 or 50 mph.
Congrat's again.:hurray:

Man, it's true what they say... it's a small world. You probably knew my highschool wrestling coach, Phil Sinaguglia (sp?). I heard through some friends that he passed away not too long ago. Next time I'm down that way I'll give you a holler. My 25th class reunion is coming up next year
Troy70SS Aug 21st, 07, 10:07 PM Phil wasn't coaching when I got involved. My battered brain can't rmemeber the name of the guy that was coaching when I started helping out but I do remember he was an ex Army Golden Eagle and went back to Boulder Colo the year after I quit. They were requiring me to start teaching at least as a substitute and after a semester of doing that I said to Hell with this!.... and quit. They got some geek math teacher to take over and he couldn't even beat the 105 pounder from what I heard. I appologize to anyone who may be a math teacher - my mom was one and may have been able to pin this guy LOL!
Anyway enough reminiscing - look me up when you are in town - we can talk horsepower and such over some suds.
