Harold,

Its winter time again and I've started thinking about changes to my 327 in my 66 chevelle. Here are my specs:

66 chevelle convertible
327 bored 0.030 over
sealed power flat top cast pistons
current cam 06109 Lunati (274/286) 0.454/0.480
062 vortec heads 1.94/1.50 valves 62 cc
LT1/Z28 springs
edelbrock vortec performer intake
1 5/8 headers
2 1/4 dual exhaust with aftermarket exhaust
holley 650VS carb 65/69 jets
10.5 power valve (car idles at 12-13")
200/4r transmission with B/M shift kit
stock lock-up converter
12 bolt posi with 3.31 gears
29" tall P235/75/15 radial tires

What is your opinion of the 06109 Lunati cam for this application? Am I leaving too much on the table. The car is mostly a cruiser but i want to be able to kick but when I need it to. I was looking at limitting the max RPM below 6000 as it is a stock bottom end. Do you have a better recommendation from the newer line of cams by Lunati? I am thinking about purchasing a 2400 stall converter for it. Would I be better off with a high stall converter for the current cam or go with a different cam?

I have received excellent advice from several other members and i am not downplaying it in any way, but i researched my posts and noticed that you hadn't commented before so I wanted to get your opinion since you are a designer for Lunati now.

Thanks and Merry Christmas
Clyde

I forgot to list my compression. I used Pat's calculator and came up with about 9.7 SCR and about 7.8 DCR. My compression check showed 195 psi after 5 cranks and would climb to around 200-205 with unlimited cranks.

I hate to do this . It feels like cheating.

Clyde,

Sorry I haven't been around.....

The Lunati 06109 is one of their legacy cams. That means they have had it for years before I got there, and that I am very unfamilar with it.
However, from what I know, it looks very satisfactory. For a better answer, call Lunati at 901-365-0950 and ask for Steve, ext 126. He worked for me for 13 years, and has been at Lunati for at least 4 years, and knows the legacy cams better than me.
If you want one of the new VooDoo cams, the 262 looks about right. It is 262/268 at the seat, 219/227 at .050, .468/.489 valve lift, and 112 LSA. They should be available from Jegs or Summit within a couple of weeks---We are shipping them some this week and next.
