Originally a 4 speed this car was made into an automatic before I bought it. A shop installed a reverse lockout but now the car rolls forward when in park and I have no low gear.

Is there something on the position of the reverse lockout that is causing this? Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
Steve

Steve,
You probably need to get the car up on a lift and have someone run the shifter through the gears while you watch the shift arm on the trans to see if it is moving through its entire range of movement. You will have to disconnect the shifter cable or linkage, move the trans arm to park, then see if the linkage is adjusted properly when the shifter is in park. A lot easier with two people.

If I recall correctly the lever on the base of the column for the lock out linkage is longer for an automatic car vs. a four speed. With the shorter lever there will not be enough travel in the linkage for an automatic car. The easiest thing to do would be to swap the column for an auto floor shift car.

Thanks Bill - I'm taking it back to the shop that did the work tomorrow and they're going to work on it again.
