I have a 70 with new wiring harness under hood,MSD streetfire dis., auto to 4 speed conversion, summit racing 85amp external volt reg, and the usual question (this just started yesterday) car wouldn't stop when you turn the key off or pull key out, thought maybe that is was from the column not in right postion but it will let you turn to the off postion, Now from reading post that it could be alt backfeeding. Looked at MSD website for instruction It shows the wire from alt to #4spot on volt reg cut and one end of diode in between them and the other end going to gen light.

1. what color is the gen light?

2. can I just put one end with silver ring to alt and the other end to #4 volt reg.( I have replace old sweep gauges to auto meter.

3.I just changes starter could I have the wires back words on the the starter.

4. Which color goes were on the starter.

thanks

The gen light wire is a blue one on my chevelle. To make sure the plug on your regulator is numbered.
The purple wire goes to the start terminal on the starter, you don't need the bypass wire hooked up.

Do a test for me before you add a diode or anything to your system, My car has a similiar problem, but all my ignition controls are ran off a relay.
My car wont shut off unless I apply my park brake and the park brake light illuminates. I suspect the added load of the park brake lamp is enough to drain the return voltage and allow the ignition to shut down.
Test this theory and let me know what you find.
