i may have found a B/B core for my 71. its a 14015445 casting #. mortec says it could be either 2 or 4 bolt. my question is, are there some b/b cores that are prefered? if so what #s do i need to be looking for? also i know where a set of 049 and 215 heads are. what is the prefered head? thanks Dave

Nothing wrong with a 14015445 454 block. As far as heads go,its up to you if you want open chamber or closed chamber...a small dome (.100) w/closed chambers will give you good compression, and so will an open chamber with big domes (.270)
Small domed hypers are cheaper than large dome hypers (I used the small domes/closed chambered in my 454)

I went with SRP pistons with my 049 heads, they were listed as 9.5-1 with a small dome. Actually there wasn't a whole lot to pick from in the 9.5 to 10-1 compression ratio range. Sure was tough handing out $500 for pistons-first time I ever spent that kind of money for pistons. I had the heads cut hoping for 9.7-1, we'll see when I measure everything what it ends up at. I agree it's alot easier to make the right street compression with the small chamber heads. If the price is really right buy both and resell the ones not used, they are getting alot harder to find. Ebay isn't giving them away graemlins/thumbsup.gif

If U can pick the 454 for less than $500 (for a core)and it doesnt have a spun main or rod youre doing good especially if pullies and brackets are included. As far as 454's go the older the blocks the better. The #445 is an 80's motor and the most common but still a good motor. As far as the heads open - closed its a just a matter of preference.
